Abstract
In turbulent environments, enterprise having innovation ability will have more competitive advantages. Therefore, Innovation has been regarded crucial. In the past, enterprises who relied entirely on their own research adopted the approach of Closed Innovation. However, this approach hadn’t adapted to the rapid changing markets. New concept─Open Innovation, proposed by Chesbrough, means that can take power of crowd to create values for enterprises. Based on this, Open Innovation Contest is considered the most direct approach to create values. For enterprises, Open Innovation Contest without crowd’s attendant is a problem. It’s therefore essential to understand how the crowd can best be motivated to re-participate in it or recommend it to others.
Thus, the main research object is people who have voluntarily participated in Open Innovation Contest organized by the business. And this research combines two theory─ Self-Determination Theory and Expectation-Disconfirmation Theory. The aim of this research is to understand how motivation impacts the intention to continue participating in Open Innovation Contests through investigating the psychological need and motivation of participants.
The framework of this research is below. After participating in contest, participants’ psychological needs will meet and affect disconfirmation. Then, disconfirmation will affect satisfaction, and satisfaction will affect autonomous motivation. Finally, autonomous motivation will affect continuance intention. After establishing the model and proposing hypotheses, a total of 144 effective questionnaires are collected. The results show psychological needs of self-learning, direct compensation, social value have positive impacts on disconfirmation, but self-presentation don’t have a positive and significant impact on disconfirmation; disconfirmation has a positive impact on satisfaction; satisfaction has a positive impact on autonomous motivation; however, only integrated regulation don’t have a significant impact on continuance intention, identified regulation and intrinsic motivation have a positive impact on continuance intention.
