本研究個案為普奇科技公司，其發展的ZK應用程式平台，可讓程式設計師迅速產出Ajax架構的Web介面程式。以開放原始碼社群的貢獻角度來切入，利用常用開放原始碼授權模式的比較來了解企業如何選擇合適的授權模式，並針對開放原始碼社群發展模式來看待企業如何經營開放原始碼社群，進一步了解虛擬社群的互動與經營，以及社會資本的形成及累積構面，最後轉變成企業的實質獲利。

研究結果顯示，開放原始碼社群所參與貢獻的開放原始碼軟體，具有使用者可即時參與貢獻及除錯的開發流程，以及行銷費用低、快速傳播與國際化的商業模式；在開放原始碼社群經營方面，官方經營者應主動與社群成員保持互動、由官方來經營社群，可逐步取代大眾知名的開放原始碼社群；社群成員的主要貢獻為協助教學內容的撰寫以及各國語言的手冊翻譯，並以論壇發文為最好的溝通互動平台，求助區（Help）成為開放原始碼社群間最大的需求。

在管理意涵方面，保持適當的企業規模與最有效率的開發及行銷費用，並選擇合適的授權模式，可以讓企業保有軟體的主控權並得到適當的獲利，企業發起者需要主導開放原始碼發展，掌握軟體發展方向並適時維持社群互動及成長，以充分運用社群的力量，將累積的社會資本成功轉換成獲利。

The thesis is a case study of a open-source software company, Potix. It has developed an application named ZK that is a software platform for programmers to create Ajax programs. The case study includes the company history and the impact of open source communities on the company growth. The research findings will provide valuable ideas on operations and interactions between the open-source software company and the virtual communities.

The applications developed by open source communities allow user to participate for developing or debugging. For those software companies to adopt open-source strategy to develop software, the overhead cost is low and the applications can be spread fast, widely and internationally. The companies need actively interact with open source community members who help to promote these communities and become contributors. They help to support the communities by writing tutorials and translating the operating manuals to different languages. Users may interact with other users in the online forums for communication, sharing or learning. Maintaining good relationships with the open source community members is important for the company to grow steadily. The virtual communities can help the diffusion of software applications so to increase sale revenues and profits.
