本研究由「公共空間縉紳化」的觀點來探討都市公共空間變遷下對年長公園使用者的影響。研究由縉紳化相關理論探討出發,發展出本研究「公共空間縉紳化」的操作型定義,並以之為基礎,檢視在高雄市城市光廊建設後,對年長公園使用者造成的影響,以及年長者公園使用情形。

本研究之研究目的:一、分析在中央公園公共空間縉紳化現象下,年長者對中央公園與城市光廊縉紳化以及商業化的感受,以及此現象對其造成的影響;二、了解中央公園年長者對中央公園的領域感與歸屬感;三、了解公園對年長使用者的利益,以及年長者對公園的需求。

為了深度了解年長公園使用者的感受,以及達到本研究探索性研究的目的,本研究採質性研究方式,對高雄市中央公園與城市光廊22位年長公園使用者以及城市光廊店家進行深度訪談,並將所蒐集的資料加以譯碼及分析。

本研究結果發現:一、本研究所定義之公共空間縉紳化現象確實存在,但其對使用者的衝擊較縉紳化小且差異大;二、城市光廊建設後,年長者減少,可能破壞其原有的社會網絡。此外,城市光廊的「噪音」與「消費」是造成年長者休閒阻礙的因素;三、年長者與年輕人在空間使用上不會互相衝突,但也「不會一起活動」。年長者對中央公園以及其聚集處沒有強烈的領域感,但具有歸屬感;四、中央公園提供年長者的利益包括:打發時間、與朋友聊天、紓解壓力、增進健康。研究結果也發現年長者對公園提供自然環境的強烈需求。

後續研究建議可以針對弱勢族群對空間使用採用觀察法,或量化方式比較與本研究的差異;在政府方面,則建議政府未來規劃設計時能主動與年長使用者建立更直接的溝通管道,以了解年長者的公園使用需求。
