Abstract
The distribution, shell weight as well as area density of planktonic foraminifera around Kueishantao Island is investigated. The species compositions around Kueishantao Island are dominated by Globigerinoides sacculifer, Globigerina bulloides and Hastigerina pelagica. The presence of G. bulloides is probably due to the seasonal upwelling and high primary productivity, which is endorsed by the CCA statistic analysis. The percentages of warm-water preferred foraminiferal species collected in 2016 are more than those collected in 2014, which may be due to the warmer surface water in 2016. The pH value of seawater around Kueishantao Island is lower than that in the South China Sea, which may contribute to the lighter weight and smaller area density of foraminifera around Kueishantao Island.
