Abstract
With so many uncertainties in the global marketplace, firms need to constantly adapt to find solutions to handle business challenges. Some firms take on the business challenges better than others. So, what are their critical success factors? Many well established multinational firms look for new emerging markets to extend their competitive advantages (exploration strategy) beyond their home countries. Other firms continue to push economies of scale and scope with existing capabilities (exploitation strategy) to increase business performance. All these firms do so to build up their dynamic capabilities to increase the firms’ resilience to business challenges.

This study adopts a qualitative approach to derive managerial inputs from seasoned country managers or top management team who are based in emerging markets to find out how these well established firms build dynamic capabilities to enhance business performance.

Findings from the semi-structured interviews demonstrated that the organizations at different developmental phases in the emerging markets must engage different forms of dynamic capabilities and deploy different strategies to strengthen their firms’ values and bottom lines.
