本論文試圖整理劍橋學派與史特勞斯學派對於馬基維利的不同詮釋。透過整理當時佛羅倫薩共和國內外的現實歷史處境，以及爬梳馬基維利與亞里斯多德和西賽羅兩位古典學者的關係，筆者認為馬基維利對於平民與貴族間緊張關係之創見正是他的共和主義分別他與例如圭洽迪尼等其他共和主義學者之處，也可以解釋他的政治現實主義對現代的持續影響。

This thesis tries to collect the different interpretation on Machiavelli made by Cambridge School and Straussian. By the examination of the history fact that Florentine Republic had to deal inside and outside her, and through clarifying the difference between Machiavalli and Aristotle, between Machiavalli and Cicero. The author believed that what makes Machiavelli’s republicanism unique is that he noticed the tension between the people and the aristocracy. This not only differs Machiavelli and his fellow scholars such as Guicciardini, but also continuously influence the moder political realism.
