摘 要

羅傑•奎爾特 (Roger Quilter, 1871-1953) 為英國愛德華時期 (Edward VII, 1901-1910) 優秀的藝術歌曲作曲家，一生致力於提升、改善敘事歌謠 (ballad)的陳腐局面，成為英國眾多作曲家中以譜寫歌曲來填滿創作生涯的第一人。《七首伊莉莎白時期詩歌》譜於一九○七年，詩詞題材以愛情為主軸，描寫愛情的不同面向，本文藉由分析詩詞的格律、優美的旋律及和聲，來探究奎爾特在英詩與音樂融合中的巧妙。
本文主要分為四個部分作論述：奎爾特生平略傳、奎爾特的藝術歌曲、《七首伊莉莎白時期詩歌》之相關背景、《七首伊莉莎白時期詩歌》之樂曲分析。奎爾特以圓滑流暢的音樂線條、巧妙的詩詞配置，在英詩與音樂線條的揉合中展現奎爾特式獨特的美感，也為英國藝術歌曲打開新的扉頁。

Abstract
Roger Quilter (1871-1953) was an outstanding English composer of art song in the Edwardian period (1901-1910). Having devoted his whole life to promote and modify the low ebb of ballads, Quilter was the first of a number of English composers who attempted to fulfil a creative life entirely through song-composition. Seven Elizabethan Lyrics was composed in 1907. All the songs set love lyrics and describe the different dimensions of love. This study discusses the ingenious combination between literature and music by analyzing poetic rhyme scheme, melody and harmony.
This thesis contains four parts as follows: the biography of Roger Quilter, the characteristics of Quilter’s art song, the background and performance analysis of Seven Elizabethan Lyrics. Flowing musical lines and exquisite word-setting are imaginatively entwined, not only showing Qilterian unique but also making a new way for English art song.
