瑪莉•琳•萊特福特(Mary Lynn Lightfoot, 1952- ) 是活躍於美國的當代女性
作曲家、合唱音樂教育家及著名的出版商主編。萊特福特的作品種類以歌樂為
主，包含了同聲二部合唱、女聲三部合唱、混聲三部合唱、混聲四部合唱、獨唱
作品及音樂劇作品等多種形式的音樂。
一九七四年至一九九O年間的教職生涯，為萊特福特累積了許多合唱教學與
帶團的經驗，為尋求真正適合中學合唱團的曲目，開始其創作之路；一九九O
年受到羅倫斯出版社的邀約，萊特福特決心成為專職的作曲家與音樂編輯，開始
全力投入合唱音樂創作與編輯的領域。直至今日已出版超過兩百三十首作品，且
持續受邀委託創作，每年皆有新作品出版，並常在美國及加拿大各地擔任合唱團
的客席指導，推廣合唱音樂不遺餘力。
二十幾年來，萊特福特的宗教合唱樂曲大受歡迎，其女聲世俗合唱作品則較
未受到重視。直至二O O 九年，萊特福特創作了十首女聲世俗合唱曲，本解說
報告以其中九首為研究主題，此九首歌曲皆以歐美文人詩作為詞，分別是〈夏日
最後的玫瑰〉、〈噢！風〉、〈箭與歌〉、〈多麼美麗的雨〉、〈分享美麗人生〉、〈小溪
在天空下沉睡〉、〈這裡有甜美的音樂〉、〈紫杜鵑〉與〈鐘〉。九首作品的歌詞皆
富有高度文學性；在音樂創作上，依著詩詞格律，樂曲架構鮮明；旋律線條優美，
鋼琴提供歌曲的氛圍，色彩豐富；調性與調式間的巧妙轉換，合唱織度的靈巧變
化，成為值得推薦給中學合唱團的精緻小品。
本解說報告為四個部份，包含前言、作曲家生平背景、九首女聲世俗合唱作
品分析與詮釋、結語，希望透過本篇報告可使讀者認識萊特福特之世俗合唱作
品，另有五則附錄，其一為研究者與萊特福特電子郵件往返，其二為萊特福特女
聲合唱兩聲部作品目錄，其三為萊特福特女聲合唱三聲部作品目錄，其四為音樂
會節目單，其五為解說音樂會節目單，提供指揮及歌者在演唱萊特福特作品時之
參考。

Mary Lynn Lightfoot (1952- ) is an active American contemporary female
composer, a choral music educator and a famous musical publication editor. Vocal
music is her primary composition field, which contains two-part choral works, SSA
choral works, SAB choral works, SATB choral works, solo voice works and musicals.
During her career as a teacher from 1974 to 1990, Lightfoot gained a lot of
choral experience. While in search of repertoire suitable for middle school choir, she
started her path of music composition. In 1990, from the invitation of Lorenz
Corporation, Lightfoot decided to be a full-time composer and music editor; started to
take choral music composition and editing as her profession. Until the year of 2009,
Lightfoot has composed and published more than 230 works. Since then, she has
many commissioned work invitations and published new works year by year until
today. She also spared no pain spreading choral music by being a guest-conductor
around U.S.A. and Canada.
In the past twenty years, Lightfoot has been popular with her sacred choral works;
her female secular choral works were less used by the public. Until 2009, only ten
female secular choral works were composed and nine of them were composed by
using European and American poets, on which this study is focused, they are: The
Last Rose of Summer, O Wind, The Arrow and the Song, How Beautiful is the Rain,
Life Has Loveliness to Sell, The River Sleeps Beneath the Sky, There is Sweet Music
Here, The Rhodora, and The Bells. In these works literary and musical values are
combined so as to produce clear music forms, beautiful melody, rich piano harmony,
brilliant switch between Key and Mode systems and skillful change in choral texture.
The resulting pieces are recommended for middle school choir.
This thesis consists of four parts: Introduction, Biography of Mary Lynn
Lightfoot, Analysis and Interpretation of nine female secular choral works and
Conclusion. There are also five appendices attached: Appendix 1 supplies e-mail
letters from Lightfoot. Appendix 2 is a list of Lightfoot’s published two-part choral
works. Appendix 3 is a list of Lightfoot’s published SSA choral works. Appendix 4 is
the program of the conducting recital. Appendix 5 is the program of the lecture recital.
