Abstract
With the internet and smartphones gradually becoming more available in recent years, a large number of related activities such as e-commerce and entertainments have thus appeared in our daily life. Besides, the development of technology has given birth to mobile payment (m-payment), provoking more discussions on that in Taiwan. On the other hand, healthcare quality in Taiwan has long been impaired by the lengthy waiting time to pay medical expenses. Therefore, the researcher wants to know whether medical m-payment can solve this problem. This study adopts the model of Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as its framework to explore how each construct in this model impacts on the behavior intention (BI) and the actual use behavior of m-payment in healthcare, and it reveals the factors that affect behavior intention and actual use behavior via the use of moderators.
This study targets the general public in Taiwan as its object and utilizes an online questionnaire to survey the opinions. Finally, a total of 773 questionnaires were completed and received, among which 751 have been recognized as valid. Furthermore, descriptive statistics, independent sample T test, Chi-square test, one way ANOVA analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were leveraged for data processing, with the results obtained as follows: 1) the performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE) and social influence (SI) will positively affect the BI of using m-payment in healthcare. 2) the facilitating condition (FC) will positively affect an individual’s actual use of m-payment in healthcare. 3) the BI construct of an individual’s use of m-payment in healthcare will positively influence the actual use behavior. 4) in terms of BI, the PE of individuals using m-payment in healthcare will not be affected by moderators. 5) in terms of BI, the EE and SI of individuals using m-payment in healthcare will be affected by some moderators. 6) in terms of the actual use behavior, the FC of individuals using m-payment in healthcare will be affected by moderators. The results also indicate that if an individual needs to wait for paying medical expenses, he or she will choose to download the related APP to save time. Additionally, the study shows that it is through the promotion of hospitals that most people learn the information of m-payment in healthcare. However, the number of people who have ever used it to pay for medical expenses was still small (11.9%). It is obvious that healthcare m-payment in Taiwan still needs to be promoted and it is recommended that the location of the promotion should be set up in hospitals to give direct influence upon the target audience.
