許多西方的研究中，受教育程度的高低對於公民的政治態度和政治行為有相當直接的顯著的正向關係。在Milligan et al.（2004）的文章中，利用實證資料來解釋教育與政治參與的關係，並且在美國的結果中有相當顯著的成果。在台灣，鮮少有類似的文章針對政治參與受教育程度的關係進行分析，本文透過一般回歸分析、工具變數分析以及傾向分數分析法，試圖推翻政治參與與高等教育程度呈現的正向關係的證據。

Most empirical literature on political participation agrees that education positively correlates with political participation. Milligan et al. find a strong and robust relationship between education and voting for the United States, but not for the United Kingdom. In Taiwan, only few studies discuss the relationship between education and political participation. In this paper, ordinary least squares estimation, instrumental variables and propensity-score matching are used to study the relationship between higher education and political participation. It is found that higher education is a proxy for preadult experiences and influences, not a cause of political participation.
