  • Abstract With the advancement of technology, flexible displays become be the trend for its property of high mechanical stress and it is easy to carry around. In the previous study,we investigate effects of low surface free energy Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) on orientation of liquid crystal molecules in a confined structure and fabricate alignment layer using PDMS.Using the flexible material PDMS on liquid crystal alignment or display is what we focus on. 
    In the previous study ,we have fabricated a inhomogeneous surfaces substrate which exist high / low surface energy domains by mixing polyimides and hoped that we can use it on liquid crystal alignment and control pretilt angle. However, mixing polyimides has the problems which high surface energy and low surface energy domains exist irregularly and randomly on the substrate. This will cause on bad liquid crystal alignment. As the result, we use PDMS for low surface energy domains, glass for high surface energy domains, and we hope that we can distribute high / low surface energy domains regularly on a substrate . Because of huge discussion on liquid crystal alignment on inhomogeneous surfaces, we narrow the topic to binary surfaces, and we will have the discussion on wettability on binary surfaces.
    PDMS is not only good at the characteristics of chemical and physical properties,but also flexible and low surface free energy. We use PDMS for low surface free energy domain,and glass for high surface energy domain,and then fabricate for a low/high surface free energy binary surfaces.We will have the discussion on wettability on binary surfaces.We hope that we can realize the influence on liquid crystal alignment on binary surfaces from the study of wettability of binary surfaces.
