Abstract
Taiwan higher education graduates face a keen competition of employment. To enhance future employability, internship is one of the best solutions. However, not many researches in Taiwan focused on internship-related issue. So this study intends to investigate the Taiwan top 100 companies internship development, compare the different perception of students, get a thorough understanding of internship content, and then provide suggestions and contribute to the development of internship in Taiwan.
First of all, this study investigated the Taiwan top 100 company’s internship status via internet. Secondly, Moghaddam’s (2011) questionnaire was employed. The first part of the questionnaire evaluated the effectiveness of academic preparation, and internship support from school’s internship office and employers. The second part evaluated the effectiveness of internship. On-line and paper questionnaire were used to collect data, and respondents were higher education students with and without internship experiences. T-test was employed to compare the perspectives of respondents. Finally, 20 students with internship experiences were interviewed.
The result indicated that 56% of top 100 companies provided internship opportunities, while some of their work content was menial and administrative. The t-test result showed that significant differences existed in some statements, and this study tried to explain the differences and consensuses. Based on the interviews, work content and what students learned were categorized.
In the end, this study provided suggestions for faculties and employers. Hope to enhance the development of internship in Taiwan, and bring a win-win-win situation for employers, faculties and students.
