中醫診斷精髓在於辨證論治，透過望、聞、問、切四診進行辨證，並綜合四診診斷結果推斷患者身體狀況或病症，其中四診之首為望診，而舌診又為望診中重要項目，臨床上中醫師透過觀察舌形可瞭解人體臟腑虛實，但診斷結果因主觀因素與個人臨床經驗不同，相同舌形於不同中醫師可能產生判讀差異，此情形不僅影響辨證，亦可能於傳承上觀念想法不同使差異逐漸擴大。如今電腦蓬勃發展，中醫舌診結合現代電腦資訊邁向現代化，透過科學及數據化方式輔助醫師診斷。本研究所使用之自動化舌診系統(ATDS)即為結合現代電腦資訊與傳統中醫舌診，透過科學方法研發具標準化判別程序之系統，提升診斷結果之一致性與可靠性，便於醫師對症下藥及傳承中醫舌診知識，且由於雲端系統快速發展，舌面資訊分析後可儲存於雲端並建立舌診資料庫，以利日後研究特定疾病時之統計比對。
常人中醫證型舌象資料庫與不同證型之舌象研究為一基礎且重要之課題，因中醫診斷強調整體調理而非針對單一疾病，對特定疾病缺乏客觀評斷，而若要分析特定疾病之中醫舌診指標均需與常人舌象進行比較，因此本研究利用舌部影像、中醫體質及健檢資料進行分析比對，舌面分析資料與健檢資料特定項目進行統計分析尋找其中顯著性差異特徵，以供後續特定疾病之比對，進而確立中醫對特定疾病客觀評估模式，；體質資料與舌診資料進行分析比對尋找顯著性差異特徵，判斷舌診資訊與體質資料之關聯性；體質資料與健檢資料進行統計分析比對尋找顯著性差異特徵，提供醫師於臨床診斷上之參考。

The diagnosis of Traditional Chinese Medicine methods is generally based on four standard approaches, inquiry, smelling/listening, observation, and palpation. During the process of observation, the diagnosis of the tongue is one of the crucial diagnosing steps. Chinese medicine practitioners can understand the organs’ situation through the observation of the tongue, but the diagnosis of subjective factors and personal clinical experience is different from the same tongue in different Chinese medicine practitioners may produce differences in interpretation. This situation not only affect the dialectical, but also because of different ideas lead to different results. Now the computer advance is progressing rapidly, the traditional Chinese medicine tongue diagnosis combined with modern computer information towards modernization, through scientific and data way to assist physician diagnosis. The automatic tongue diagnosis system (ATDS) used in this study is a combination of modern computer information and traditional Chinese medicine tongue diagnosis, develop a system of standardized discriminatory procedures through scientific methods to improve the consistency and reliability of diagnostic results. To facilitate the doctor on the right medicine and inheritance knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine tongue, and because of the rapid development of cloud system, tongue information can be stored in the cloud and the establishment of the tongue database to facilitate statistical comparison of specific disease in the future.
The study of tongue database of normal people and different syndromes is a basic and important subject. Because traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the overall conditioning rather than the single disease, the lack of objective judgment of the specific disease. And to analyze the specific disease of the tongue index have to be compared with the normal people’s tongue, so this study using the tongue image, Chinese medicine constitution and health examination data to analyze and compare. Analyzing tongue data and specific items in health examination data to find the significance of the difference for the analysis of specific disease in the future, and then establish the objective assessment of specific diseases of traditional Chinese medicine model; Analyzing constitution data and tongue data to find the significance of the difference, to determine the relationship between tongue data and constitution data; Analyzing constitution data and health examination data to find the significance of the difference, to provide practitioners the reference of diagnosis.
