英國學派是一套歷史悠久且深具特色的國際關係理論學派，其以多元的方法論立場與特質，讓此一學派不僅具備結合不同學派理論之間對話的空間，進一步亦有機會形成一套總體宏觀理論框架的可能。然而，要達到此一跨學派、宏觀理論框架的工作，英國學派除了秉持本身對國際關係的多元看法外，亦需嘗試從主流美國研究國際關係的觀點來加以吸納學習，讓彼此之間能找出一個溝通的互動平台，而這樣的交流互動的過程，正是國際關係理論學者Barry Buzan一再努力嘗試的工作，並希冀從修正英國學派的理論立場當中得以體現前述之目標。因此，本文的目的在於點出Buzan如何從英國學派傳統的理論主張，一一剖析英國學派本身內在的理論問題，一者包括國際體系、國際社會與世界社會三大本體之間相互關係的再釐清；其次，Buzan如何融入美國國際關係研究的方法論，來釐清並擴充英國學派的理論研究範疇，提出一套其修正後英國學派的整體過程；最後，Buzan試圖從不同的國際關係研究面向上，分別刻畫英國學派與美國學派之間能夠進行實際上的理論對話基礎，一方面說明不同學派得以相互解釋補充之外，也凸顯其所強調英國學派能夠擔當起結合多元研究方法的橋樑角色。
