契爾考特為二十一世紀英國當代合唱作曲家與指揮，自幼參加合唱團並曾為英國知名重唱團體「國王歌手」一員，一九九七年因職涯規畫而離開「國王歌手」，全心投注在作曲並且至致力於合唱音樂教育領域。
二零一三年，英國歌唱組織「歌唱吧！大英帝國」舉辦「伍斯特國際少年歌手音樂節」，並委託契爾考特創作一組合唱作品。契爾考特以和平與團結為主軸，挑選了五個人類史上的歷史事件，將其分別譜曲，並邀請好友布忍特為此寫詞，兩人經過多次音樂與文學的討論完成這組有童聲合唱、混聲四部、鋼琴與定音鼓編制的組曲。
《改變世界的五日》由五首樂曲組成，使用的歷史題材有活字印刷術、奴隸制度的瓦解、動力飛行機、抗生素的發現與在太空中的第一人，透過豐富的音畫手法與簡單悅耳的和聲進行，呈現每首歌曲鮮明特色，為了教學效率與效果，在樂曲架構上具有一致性，音樂難度適中，是一組富有趣味性與教育意義的作品，推薦中學與大學合唱團演唱。
本論文由五個章節組成，第一章為緒論；第二章為作品背景探究，第一節介紹作曲家之生平，第二節介紹作曲背景與首演，第三節簡述樂曲中五個歷史事件；第三章為樂曲創作手法分析，依序討論樂曲結構與內涵；第四章為合唱教學與詮釋，提供排練現場之教學技巧與指揮建議；第五章為結論。另有兩則附錄，分別為與作曲家之電子書信往來及契爾考特世俗已出版之合唱作品列表。

Bob Chilcott is a famous Britain choral composer and conductor in 21th century. He started singing in choirs when he was a child, and had been a member of King’s Singers. In 1997, he decided to leave King’s Singers and focus on composition as well as choral musical education.
In 2013, “Sing! UK”, a non-profit organization in Britain, held the Worcester International Festival for Young Singers (WIFyS) and Chilcott was commissioned to write a choral work. Chilcott based mainly on two ideas: Peace and Unity, and he picked five events of the human history. He invited his good friend, Bennett, to write the poem. They usually discussed with each other on music and literature, and carried out the piece with upper voices, mixed choir, piano and timpani.
Five days that Changed the World consists of five songs, the historical topic including the invention of printing, disruption of the slavery system, powered fight machine, discovery of penicillin and the flying to the space. Each song has its distinctive character with the word painting and dulcet harmonic progression. For the educational efficiency and effect, music structures are consistent and of moderate difficulty. This work is very interesting and full of educational meaning, and suitable for high school and college choir.
The thesis consists of five chapters. First chapter is the introduction. Chapter two discusses the background of this work: Chilcott’s life, background of the composition and its debut, and brief introduction of the five historical events. Chapter three analyzes this work, including musical structure and details. Chapter four focuses on the interpretation, rehearsal technique and suggestions about conducting. Chapter five is the conclusion. The thesis also includes two appendixes: correspondence and e-mail between the author and the composer, and a list of Chilcott’s published secular choral works.
