李奧納多．伯恩斯坦(Leonard Bernstein, 1918-1990)為美國當代重要作曲家，他是一位指揮家、作曲家，也是一位音樂教育家。他的聲樂聯篇作品《我討厭音樂：五首兒歌的聯篇歌曲》(I Hate Music: A Cycle of Five Kid Songs)創作於一九四三年，為他的第一組聯篇歌曲。此組作品有五首歌曲組成，由伯恩斯坦譜曲及作詞。歌曲內容在描述一位十歲女孩心中的想法，以及她眼中的世界。
本文除了前言及結語外，主要以四個部分來論述：伯恩斯坦的生平、伯恩斯坦的聲樂作品概述、《我討厭音樂》的創作背景、《我討厭音樂》樂曲分析。筆者經由對伯恩斯坦這組聯篇歌曲的分析，來探討伯恩斯坦如何運用和聲、旋律及節奏等音樂手法，表現出歌詞中的意境；也希望藉由對美國當代音樂發展的探討，及對於此組歌曲的分析，來了解伯恩斯坦對於美國音樂素材的運用及展現，以增進歌者的詮釋及演唱深度。

Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) is one of the most important American modern composers. In addition to that, Bernstein is also a conductor and music educator. In 1943, he composed his first song cycle I Hate Music：A Cycle of Five Kid Songs. Bernstein has composed the songs also written the lyrics for all five songs. He used theses five songs to describe the world viewed by a ten-year-old girl and her thoughts of what she sees.
In addition to the preface and conclusion, this study conveys four main parts: life of Bernstein, art songs of Bernstein, background of I Hate Music, and analysis of I Hate Music. The writer discusses how Bernstein painted the image of his lyrics by looking into the harmony, melody and tempo Bernstein had incorporated into I Hate Music. Besides, this study is aim to explore an understanding of how Bernstein used modern American music element to evaluate the performance. It is achieved by discussing modern American music development and analyzing the song cycle.
