本論文主要是利用光束傳播法來分析非線性光波導結構的
特性及應用。非線性光波導是指光波導結構中含有折射率
會隨電場強度而改變的介質。在非線性光波導的基本原理
方面,以模態定理分析了三層的非線性光波導結構。不僅
繪出了此結構的色散曲線圖,也從中觀察到輸入功率對電
場分佈情形的影響。以三層光波導結構為基礎而將其推廣
到多層結構,歸納出一個一般性的方法來分析覆層為非線
性介質且有週期性折射率分佈的多層非線性光波導結構。
此法亦可用來分析多分枝光波導結構中光波的傳輸情形,
而數值模擬的結果證明提出的方法是正確無誤的。在非線
性光波導結構的應用方面,討論了彎曲的非線性光波導結
構和具有局部非線性的多分枝光波導結構。前者在適當之
介質分佈情形下,光波傳輸情形在高低輸入功率間會有明
顯的轉變,顯現出開關的特性。利用這個特性,在輸入端
加入漸細Y 型波導結構,調整輸入功率與彎曲角角度將使
其具有邏輯函數的功能。在局部非線性的多分枝光波導結
構裡,數種主要的介質分佈情形都做了探討。結果顯示,
大部份的情形皆會在分枝端產生開關的現象。然而在一特
定的介質分佈下,此結構將具有等功率分工器的功能,提
供每個分枝相同的輸出功率。
