Abstract
This thesis tries to explore to what extent Vietnamese migrant workers in Taiwan are involved in transnational activities and what transnational identification they have, as well as examine the effects of transnational activities and identification on the integration into Taiwanese society. For this purpose, the concepts of transnationalism and migration integration are used to explain the cross-border activities and transnational identification of Vietnamese migrant workers as well as to identify the variables corresponding to commonly used measures of integration to evaluate the effects of the transnational activities and identification on the integration outcome. The analysis is based on data from the in-depth interviews of Vietnamese migrant workers in Kaohsiung and Tainan cities, Taiwan. The findings show that most migrant workers are regular transnational activists in terms of economic and socio-culture spheres and make a positive identification with Vietnam. Those transnational activities and identification of migrant workers facilitate successful economic integration but hinder social integration and do not affect cultural integration directly.
