Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco(1895-1968) was one of the most important Italian Jewish composers in the 20th century. He was known as the foremost guitar composers, with over one hundred guitar compositions. Due to the political issues, he had to imigrat to the United States in 1939, and became a film composer. This Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 128 was written in 1945 and was one of the few wind instrumental works. This work features exotic melodies, elegant lines, and technical challenges. Therefore, it is quite a brilliant composition.
This study focuses on Tedesco’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 128, and includes three main chapters. Chapter One introduces the biography and the music style of Tedesco. Chapter Two is the analysis of this composition. Chapter Three is the technical and musical interpretation of Tedesco’s Clarinet and Piano Sonata, Op. 128.
