利用搜尋引擎尋找參考文獻，不僅方便搜尋，找到的電子文獻更容易下載儲存，可以省下可觀的時間。不過在學術機構常用的文獻搜尋，需要利用個人用戶無法負擔的電子期刊資料庫等搜尋引擎。所幸目前有一些免費的搜尋引擎，例如Google學術搜尋和偏重生物醫學方面PubMed等。除了對所有網路使用者開放之外，這些搜尋網站的介面是否能夠支援使用者的搜尋，又是否能完全免費提供文獻的全文下載？本研究以生物和醫學領域為主的PubMed文獻搜尋網站為例，探討其文獻搜尋網頁介面，進而利用其搜尋引擎開發一個用戶端程式介面的雛形，改善搜尋流程中的各個介面。並且整合從搜尋到電子文獻全文下載為止的流程，確保使用者能藉由一貫的介面處理從文獻搜尋到全文下載的所有步驟。
