臺灣慢性肝病的發生率相當高，此病常會進行到不可逆的肝硬化階段。在肝纖維化的早期，其病勢是可逆轉的，若能在此時給予適當的治療，則肝硬化之情況是可能預防的。在肝纖維化過程中，肝衛星細胞的被活化常是最重要關鍵；而轉化生長因子-β1的分泌可刺激肝衛星細胞的增生，使它變成具有α-肌動蛋白表現的肌纖維母細胞，此變形化的細胞可大量增生細胞外基質成份，且會減少細胞外基質成份的降解，如此可使肝臟內增加許多的纖維組織。而第九型基質金屬蛋白 |

The incidence rate of chronic hepatopathy in Taiwan is high, which afflicts the patients by progressively developing irreversible cirrhosis. Hepatic fibrosis is the intermediate and crucial stage of this process, characterized by reversibility. If treated properly in this stage, cirrhosis can be successfully prevented.
