Several issues on the problems of the adaptive array beamforming and code-division multiple access (CDMA) multiuser detection are investigated in this dissertation. Recently, based on the decomposition of observation vector space into two orthogonal eigenspace, the eigenspace-based (ESB) and the generalized eigenspace-based (GEIB) array signal processing techniques have been widely discussed due to their superior performance over conventional techniques. At first, the purpose of this dissertation is mainly to present robust and efficient algorithms for further enhancing the performance of ESB and GEIB techniques under imperfect and practical operation environments. We also propose a method of corrected steering angles to combat the supersensitivity of eigenanalysis interference canceler (EIC) to source number overestimation and steering angle errors.
We analyze the performance of several ESB multiuser detectors, including conventional direct-form detector and generalized sidelobe canceler (GSC) for synchronous CDMA system with and without desired user code mismatch. We also present a way of resolving spreading code mismatch in blind multiuser detection with subspace-based technique. Furthermore, the structure of GSC can be utilized to deal with the case of the desired user's SNR < 0 dB.
Next, algorithm for adaptive Hâ filter has demonstrated the advantage of reduction of sensitivity to modeling error (due to finite tap number) and suitability for arbitrary ambient noise over recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm. However, the computational burden of the Hâ algorithm is enormous. In order to reduce the computational complexity, subweight partition scheme is employed to an Hâ-based algorithm. The computation burden of the conventional adaptive Hâ algorithm can be mitigated with slight performance degradation. The Hâ-based algorithm is then further extended to the adaptive beamformer and blind multiuser detector.
Finally, we present new diversity techniques for multiuser detection under multipath fading channels in asynchronous CDMA systems. The enhanced capacity of diversity for multipath channels can be achieved by appropriately utilizing the constraint matrix and the response vector in multiple constraint minimum variance (MCMV) algorithm. Moreover, the proposed techniques offer gratifying multiple access interference (MAI) suppression. We also incorporate the signal subspace-based projection into MCMV detector, so that the noise enhancement in the MCMV criterion can be reduced.

In this study, highly C-axis oriented AlN thin films stacked upon Al bottom electrode on Si and Glass substrate are deposited with Reactive RF magnetron sputtering Technique. Three different sputtering systems were utilized to evaluate the optimized growth parameters. Room temperature growth was applied to the all system. During thin film growing , the substrate bias condition, sputtering work pressure, sputtering power and the N2 concentration are those key parameters to be adjusted in order to gain smooth surface morphology and highly C-axis prefer orientation AlN thin films.
The crystallography of the deposited films was analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD). Film surface morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Meanwhile, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was adopted to observe the microstructure and determine the grain size of the film.
The results of the XRD patterns showed that in a 17cm long sputtering working distance condition, the AlN (002) can be obtained and the peak intensity can be increased when the sputtering power was fixed meanwhile reduced the working pressure and applied the negative bias on the substrate. The surface morphology can be improved with long working sputtering distance. The micrography of the TEM reveals that there is a transition region between Al metal and AlN film. Fine column structures can be observed in the initial growth stage. The size of the grain increased as the film became thicker. Strong AlN (002) ring pattern was obtained from the region of the top of the film. It indicates that the AlN (002) will not appear till the thickness of the film reach the critical thickness.

It is always very difficult for the piano teachers to select appropriate teaching materials from many published method series. Assigning them to meet the need of each individual student is also a challenge. From the Chinese editions of several piano teaching materials, the following three elementary piano method series with similar attributes were selected as the base of this research: David Carr Glover Piano Library, Bastien Piano Library, and Alfred's Basic Piano Library. Through systematic analysis and comparison, this research reaches certain conclusions about the similarities and differences between these method series. The outcome of this research may help piano teachers in selecting method books more objectively and in improving their teaching techniques.
This research compares three selected piano method series from the following four aspects: the longitudinal connection of core courses, the latitudinal connection of core courses, the functional techniques of core courses, and the degree of applicability and compatibility of the supplementary courses. Items being analyzed for the first two aspects are basic knowledge of piano playing, reading approach (including pre- staff reading, staff recognition, recognition of intervals, scales and tonalities), rhythmic training, playing techniques, and interpretation or expression. The results of all analyses are arranged in tabulate form with necessary comments. The functional techniques of core courses are summarized in four categories: sight reading, transposition, harmonization with primary chords as the accompaniment, and playing primary chord progressions. The degree of applicability and compatibility of supplementary courses in the selected series is also determined through the consideration of same items listed above.
The findings of this research are threefold which reveal the uniqueness of each piano method series: 1.The "Piano Solo" book of the David Carr Glover Piano Library works better with its core courses in the latitudinal connections than the "Piano Repertoire" book. 2. The Bastien Piano Library is the only one out of the three selected series offering the functional techniques of sight reading and emphasizing the transposition technique. 3. The Alfred's Basic Piano Library performs the best in the longitudinal and latitudinal connections within its core lessons. Its selected supplementary courses and "Piano Lessons" books have the highest degree of applicability and compatibility.

Business process reengineering (BPR) has been considered as one of the key approaches to increasing the competitive edge of many modern enterprises. Many big enterprises have taken diversified degree of reengineering to their business processes. The importance of understanding the existing business processes and evaluating the new business processes before they are actually deployed is commonly recognized. Without careful examination of the existing and new business processes, the change in business process.
In this research, we look into the business process analysis issues under the scope of BPR. We first examine various models for business processes. As each model is invented with a purpose, e.g., for identifying the critical path in a factory manufacturing environment, for automating workflow in an office environment, etc., they may not be completely suitable for business process analysis. We try to identify the requirements of business process analysis and propose a model to meet these requirements. We finally design and implement a business process analyzer. This business process analyzer use our proposed business process model and is able to answer the queries from the BPR team expressed by our proposed query language.

Abstract
With the international age coming, a number of studies have been done regarding the management of expatriates, but little research has focused on the expatriates' decisions to quite their assignment. A comprehensive model is developed to test the cause of the expatriates' turnover tendencies. The model is applied both of the theories from socialization and work-family conflict. Date were obtained with a sample of 171 expatriates in Mainland China from Taiwan's international businesses. Results were indicated that work-family conflict and socialization have the direct effect on intent to leave organization and intent to transfer back prior to the completion of their foreign assignments. Work-family conflict, job similarity, organization support have the direct effect on intent-to-leave the job. Family support has both of the direct and indirect effects on the intent to transfer back prior to the completion of their foreign assignments. Parents' health and the youngest child's age have the indirect effect on the expatriates' intent-to-leave through work-family conflict. Expatriate's position has the indirect effect on the expatriates' intent-to-leave through expatriate's socialization. Implication for international HRM researchers and practitioners are discussed.

Because of changing customer requirements and increasing introduction of new products, the retailerâs inventory has to be reduced. In addition, the supplier is facing the problem of more frequent delivery in small batch. All these give rise to the demand for Distribution centerï¼DCï¼. In addition to the study of logistics facilities, logistics information systemï¼LISï¼ plays an important role to improve the efficiency of physical distribution.
Various market environments require different kinds of DC. The services and operational processes provide in each DC will depend on the orientation of the DC. The differences are to be reflected in the LIS requirements.
The findings of this research indicated that both scale and organizational form have contributed to the variation in LIS. The DC that is large in size is often the logistics department of a big company; furthermore, the DC that is small in size is often a third party logistics company. Hence small DCs, while concentrating on the logistics function, do no need the function of purchasing. Large DCs have better performance record in using database, electronic bulletin board system, telephone conference, and video conference. By comparison, small DCs have better use of common distribution network and common information system. In general, problematic internal and external integration, and lack of flexibility are prevalent phenomena in the implementation of LIS.
Suggestions could be made that integration with other type of information system is to be emphasized for large DCs. Small DCs, while falling short of resources, will need to form alliance with their partners, which can provide better information resources for daily operations.
The user interface of LIS had a significant impact on user satisfaction, and user satisfaction in turn affected the competitive advantage of DC. This indicated that both user interface and user satisfaction should be highlighted in designing LIS. A LIS should be directed to meet user friendly purpose and strategic position in the market, which will exert the system function fully and achieve competitive advantage for the company.

Effect of Copper on Peroxidase Activity in Peanut Root

Cu-treated peanut seedlings not only showed a significant inhibition in peanut root growth, but also a decrease in endogenous indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) contents . The decline of IAA content in Cu-treated tissues is accompanied by an increase in cationic peroxidase activity. In addition, the increase in cationic peroxidase (pI 8.5) activity is correlated with an increase in cationic peroxidase transcripts. Cu might suppress the growth of peanut roots by inducing the synthesis of the cationic peroxidase isozyme that degrades endogenous IAA, causing the retardation of peanut root growth. The increase in activity of anionic peroxidases (pI 3.5) is also correlated with the rise in lignin content in Cu-treated roots. We suggest that the increase in anionic peroxidases (pI 3.5) induced by Cu might be responsible for lignin synthesis in peanut roots, and remove excess hydrogen peroxide, thus serving a detoxifying role during Cu treatment.

Along with advancement of human industrialization, pollution in the ocean is getting worse. Moreover, the overfishing through the years has caused catastrophic damage to the ocean eco-system. In order to avoid exhaustion of fishery resource, many concepts of planned administrative fishery has become popular, and thereamong, ocean ranch draws the most attention. Artificial reef plays a key role in an ocean ranch, which starts with incubating brood fish in the laboratory. Often, the brood fish will grow in the cage near coast till proper size, then be released to the artificial reef. If fish groups do not disperse and multiply, the artificial reef can be considered successful. The success of the artificial reef relies on the stable foundation. Consequently, the composition of seabed sediment under the planned site should be investigated thoroughly before hand. This research introduced a remote investigation method, which an active sonar, depth sounder, was used to emit and collect acoustic signals. By using the signals reflected from the seabed, the sediment composition can be analyzed.
However, all acoustic signals are subjected to noise through propagation, and distorted somehow. Therefore, certain signal pre-processing should be applied to the received signal, and representative characteristics can be extracted from it. In this research, the recognition platform was built on artificial neural network (ANN) in this research.
Among many network algorithm modes, this research chose the widely used backpropagation learning algorithm to be the main structure in ANN. The goal of this research was to discriminate among three seabed sediments: fine sand, medium sand, and rock. During the signal processing, characteristics were extracted by using peak value selection method. Selected major frequency peaks were fed into the network to train and learn. According to partial error relation between recognition and practical result, weights of the network were adjusted for improving successful ratio. Finally, a reliable acoustic wave signal recognition system was constructed.

Facing the increasing global competition, modern business organizations have to respond quickly and correctly to the constant changing environment to ensure their competitive advantages. This goal has led to a recent surge of work on Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Workflow Management. While most work in these areas assume that process definitions are known in a priori, it is widely recognized that defining a process type which totally represents all properties of the underlying business process is a difficult job. This job is currently practiced in a very ad-hoc fashion. In this paper, we postulate an algorithm to discover the process definition from analyzing the existing process instances. We compare our algorithm with other existing algorithms proposed in the literature in terms of time complexity and apply these algorithms through synthetic data sets to measure the qualities of output results. It has been found that our algorithm is able to return the process definitions closer to the real ones in a faster manner.

In the present study, effect of satisfying stress boundary conditions, in addition to displacement boundary conditions, in the axisymmetric vibration analysis of circular and annular plates is investigated. A new axisymmetric finite element, which is based on a combination of the conventional displacement-type variational principle and the Reissnerâs principle, is proposed. With this formulation, stresses, like displacements, are primary variables, and both displacement and stress boundary conditions can be easily and exactly imposed. Axisymmetric vibration frequencies of some typical circular and annular plates are then obtained with the present approach and are compared with those by the displacement-type axisymmetric finite element. It is found that the conventional finite element, though not satisfying stress boundary conditions, can still obtain sufficiently accurate vibration frequencies of circular and annular plates.

We call this option is a probation option. We introduce the application of this option, and further more to device the value of this option. Beside, this option also can apply to the field of marketing, and to calculate the cost of marketing strategy.
In the research of an American, this paper proposes a new method- the implied belief model, to obtain a closed-form solution of the value of the American option. We analyze the value of the American option through the view point of the sellers of the options. By adopting this method, we derive the upper bound for the value of an American option. Then we define the belief value of seller to obtain a closed-form solution of the value of an American option. Finally, we apply the method to S&P 100 American option and deduce the implied belief value.

Due to a rapid expansion of commercial usage on the Internet, on-line auction is showing its growing potential and economic benefit on business competition.ãOn-line auction is a totally new consuming experience for most people. However, though fast and convenient comparing to traditional shopping, social contacts, such as bargaining, are not provided during the process of on-line shopping. Moreover, stereotyped consuming behavior of " seeing is believing" and concerns on Internet security may also be obstacles for many consumers to shop on-line.Through investigating online auction users' expectation ,trying to find influencing factors for users to adopt on-auction shopping.Factors causing users to avoid on-line shopping are also of great interest.ãEnterprises doing Internet business may find the results of this study useful in their marketing analysis and planning.
A web-based questionnaire was employed.Items were grouped into three sections in the questionnaire: on-audtion shopping environment, on-line experience, and demographic information.ãA total of 1698 questionnaire was collected. The results indicated that male subjects were higher motivated to shop on-line auction than their female counterparts.Subjects with on- line auction shopping experience were found to have significantly higher motivation to shop on-line auction than those without such experience.Securityãproblem of using credit card for payment via Internet still is the most concerns for many subjects. Provision of detail information regarding product description and procedures for making order, as well as a comprehensive after-sell service may largely encourage web users adopting on-line auction shopping.

The Application of Absorption Cooling Systems in Enhancing Power Generation Capacity
Thesis/Dissertation

It takes 3~5 years to finish a power plaint project including location, reliability, environment evaluating, investigation, etc. In addition, it is difficulty to get a right place and hinder by the environment protection. So, it is an important class on boosting the existing power generation capacity.
It was used to enhance power generation capacity by increasing the combustion chamber temperature in traditional way. However, it not only increases the exhaust temperature of gas turbine, but also increase the compressor ration. However, it is more difficulty on the design of gas turbine. And then we consider the other way in this thesis by reducing inlet air temperature of compressor to increase the density and flow of air and the power generation capacity. The result is magic that the power generation capacity enhance 10% ~20%.
The analysis of Combustion Turbine Inlet Air Cooling System by Absorption refrigerant system(CTIAC-ABS) describe in chapter 2 including fundamental of a gas turbine, the absorption refrigerant chiller, the inlet cooling coil and cogeneration system. It lets us know how to select the style of cogeneration and specification of an absorption refrigerant chiller.
It is important to consider the mass condensate water in the air side of inlet cooling coil. The author suggest to use the analysis method of wet-coil developed by Threlkeld(1970).
The CTIAC system could be used to the Gas Turbine System, Gas Turbine with HRSG System and Combined System. Because of there is not high pressure steam, we can use the fired-gas absorption refrigerant system as the source of chiller on the CTIAC-ABS system. There is the high pressure steam of Gas Turbine with HRSG System and Combined System. So we can divided the high pressure steam into two part, one to process and the other could be used as the heat source of absorption refrigerant chiller There are two advantages of using CTIAC-ABS on cogeneration power plaint.
1.The new purpose of mass high pressure steam could be used in cogeneration power plaint in Taiwan.
2.Reduction operational cost of CTIAC-ABS
The author finished the sensibility of power generation capacity with the analysis of practical operative data, classification of gas turbine and the power plaint Simulation program (GateCycle). When the compressor inlet temperature decrease from 30OC to 10OC, the results are : air flow rate increase 6.3%, fuel flow rate increase 5.95%, exhaust air temperature decrease 1.7% and exhaust air flow rate increase 6.3%, net power output increase 12.2%, heat rat decrease 3.7% and thermal efficiency upward 1.32%.Then, the author got a simulative equation of power capacity.
The typical gas turbines operate at full-load condition, 52.25% of annual hours, in 1998 in Taiwan. Gas turbines were almost full load on daytime and half-load or closed at night.
If we apply the CTIAC-ABS system on TPC's combined power plant, it can operate at 8:00~18:00 on daytime and shutdown at night. If there is high pressure steam in the cogeneration with HRSG, the CTIAC-ABS system can operate at the time that the cogeneration power plant is operative.
How to decide the capacity of absorption refrigerant chiller? The author decided the maximum capacity of absorption refrigerant chiller operating at 31OC , 80%RH of weather condition that limit by 2.5% ***. The author forecasts the lowest compressor inlet air temperature will be 10OC.
The steam double-effect CTIAC-ABS system could make the compressor inlet air temperature decrease from 30OC to 10 OC and enhances the heat rate 3.8%, the thermal efficiency 1.2%. The fired-direct CTIAC-ABS system also enhances the heat rate 5% and the thermal efficiency 1.5%. The results are close to the simulation of GateCycle program. So, the author compared the result of simulation with real data that the optimumal operative point of the CTIAC-ABS system is 10OC.

Because of the essentially stochastic nature of power systems behavior, mainly due to random equipment outages and load variations, it is very important to consider uncertainties of power systems to promote the accuracy of Available Transfer Capability (ATC) calculations. This paper proposed a probabilistic technique "Bootstrap" to provide an accuracy criteria for ATC estimation that uses historical data and a future postulated condition. The bootstrap is a computer-based method for assigning measures of accuracy to statistical estimates. Test results showed that when the uncertainties of loads and line outages were considered, using the proposed probabilistic approach the confidence intervals could reflect the accuracy of the posted ATC values and it will be more flexible in bidding ATC to further aid transmission customers in their evaluation of transaction biddings and risk analysis.

This thesis uses a method called "parabolic equation approach."
This method can treat both the variations of the terrain and the
refractive index simultaneously. This method makes it possible
to predict the radio propagation more precisely. We can discuss
the effects of the variations of the refractive index to radio
signal and demo effects by using parabolic equation method.
The Effective Earth Radius Factor is 4/3 suggested by CCIR so-called
"Standard Atmosphere Model". But we try to find more suitable K in
the Southern Taiwan area. We adopt Parabolic Equation Propagation
Model to simulate real situation of radio propagation in the Southern
Taiwan area and the prediction is compared with the measurement
obtained previously. We can get the best K in the Southern Taiwan
area is 1.8 and 1.9. The best K is greater than the value of 4/3
suggested by CCIR.
Recently the government on Taiwan release more radio broadcasting
licenses to the general public. As the number of radio stations
increases, the interference between stations becomes more likely.
There have been reports about the poor quality of broadcasting from
stations. In this paper, we will study the interference using FM
radio stations as an example. Given the characteristics of the
transmitting antenna including location, frequency, pattern, height
and power, the field strength can be computed with the equivalent
earth radius factor K as a parameter. The difference in interference
level is obtained under the standard atmosphere (K=4/3) and a case of
K=1.55 which has been reported to be more suitable in Taiwan. Finally
an extreme case that a ducting exists will be studied.
Our results can be used to find more suitable separation distances free
from interferences between co-channel and adjacent channel stations.
By including a realistic tropospheric term, the more accurate field
strength predictions can give the Spectrum Authority a better spectrum
assignment tool. This has the potential to increase the number of
available stations that can be made available or to reduce the
interference stations may experience.

A buried polyimide waveguide fabricated on glass substrate using semiconductor processing technologies is presented. The proposed structure is applicable to planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) because of planar surface morphology of the device. Potential applications of the device range from passive optical coupler to active modulators. The fabrication steps of the buried polyimide waveguide include deep etching, polishing of polyimide, global planarization and formation of waveguide end facets.
Deep glass etching requires a hard etching mask in order to prevent unwanted etching of the under laying material. Chromium(Cr) is one of the best making material because it is easy to grow and hard to etch. The Cr thin film was deposited the glass substrates using a thermal evaporation system.
The glass substrate was etched by reactive ion etching (RIE) using SF6 and O2 (SF6:O2=20:1) mixture. Etching rate of glass and Cr were 0.1µm/min and 130Å/min, respectively. After etch, the polyimide guiding layer of the waveguide was spin-coating at a slow spinning speed onto the glass substrate, and was cured at 300âfor 1.5 hr. The uneven surface of the device was planarized by lapping the polyimide down to the glass substrate. Both the abrasive paper and Al2O3 powder were used in the process. Then a thin layer of SOG (spin-on-glass) was coated on the top of the waveguide to isolated the polyimide from the air. Finally, the end facets of the waveguide were form by RIE etching without further polishing. The propagation loss of the waveguide was measured by conventional cut back method. The polarized lights at 1.3um were launched into the waveguide by end-face optical coupling. The propagation losses of the waveguide are 3dB/cm for TE wave and 4.6dB/cm for TM wave, respectively.

Abstract
In order to understand the source, transport pathway and sink of settling particulates off northeast Taiwan, time-series sediment traps (PPS-3/3) were deployed on the north slope of Ilan ridge (T18) and in the Okinawa trough (T15 and T16) to collect settling particulates. The trapped particulate samples were determined for apparent mass flux (T18), particle size distribution, and contents of lithogenic portion, metals (Al, Mg, Ca, Fe, Mn, Cu), opal, OC (organic carbon) and IC (inorganic carbon). The results show that mass flux in winter is higher than in summer except for typhoon or rainstorm in summer which may cause high particulate flux. At mooring T11 and T17, only 2 cups had collected particulates but with rapid decrease, and the remaining cups were empty. It is not clear whether Kuroshio plays a role and further investigation is needed. The trapped particulates were mainly clay and silt in the north slope of Ilan ridge and south Okinawa trough, and were sand and silt in the Mien-Hwa canyon. The portion of coarse silt and larger particles (>31 mm) decreases with an increase of distance from the land (from T11 to T18). The grain size distribution of particulate at T18 is similar to that at T15 and T16, but the mass flux in the north slope of Ilan ridge is an order of magnitude higher than in the south Okinawa trough. The size distribution pattern below 600m water depth is very similar at both T15 and T16, but the coarse fraction (> 31 mm) is more at the upper than lower traps, presumably due to lateral transport. The Mn content of the trapped particulates in the south Okinawa trough is twice as hign as that in the north slope of Ilan ridge. High Mn/Al ratio in the trough suggests that Mn is supplied by hydrothermal activities. Lithogenic portions occupy about 84~88.5% at T18, T16 and T15. Relative to other marginal seas biogenic contributions are clearly lower.

Carl Maria von Weberâ composer and pianist, wrote quite a few chamber music during his life time. However, he only composed one trio for flute, cello and piano. Such combination of chamber music is quite rare in Romantic Era, yet this pieceâTrio in G Minor, Op. 63 is Weberâs most satisfactory one. The purpose of this research is to study Weberâs Trio in G Minor, Op. 63. First, Weberâs musical learning process will be discussed. Then the sonata form of Weber, the role of the three different instruments of piano trio, and the background of this piece will also be investigated. Later, according to the discussion above, an analysis of this Trio in three directions-- the form, the relation of the three instruments, and the dramatic intenseness will also be discussed. The last part concludes the research of this thesis.
Due to the poor musical learning process at childhood, the construction of Weberâs sonata form is not traditional classical motivic development, so the structure of the sonata form of Weber is quite different from the sonatas of Beethoven. By analyzing the form of the four piano sonatas of Weber will help the understanding of the structure of the Trio. Not like the classical piano trio, the three instrumentsâ relationship of this Trio is rather balance. Moreover, Weberâs talent of creating dramatic atmosphere is quite obvious in this piece. Hopefully, because of this research, the performers should have more information about interpretation on such combination of chamber music in order to perfect their performance.

In recent year, the securities firms had suffered form the turmoil of the financial crisis in Taiwan. Although the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation and the Securities and Futures Commission have their own early warning systems (EWS), the EWS based on financial statements and the "capital adequacy ratio", respectively for the risks that the brokers and dealers assume, still have some defects: (1) EWS based on financial statements are static and time-lagged in the rapid-moving market, and (2) the calculation rules in the capital adequacy ratio are inelastic and inefficient.
This research emphasizes on the stock positions of the dealers, and calculate the "Value at Risk" (VaR) for these positions. In this way, we hope to know whether the EWS based on VaR can detect the risks of the dealers in time, and improve the drawbacks of the EWS based on financial statements and capital adequacy ratio.
We found that: (1) the EWS based on VaR can effectively reflect the market risk of the dealers, and (2) the "historical simulation" method might distort the real portfolio risk, thus we suggest that "delta-normal" is a better method, and (3) the EWS based on VaR can discriminate the risk level of different securities dealers.
In conclusion, we have the suggestion of the EWS for securities firms in the future. For firm-wide operation, the EWS based on financial statements is suitable; for the credit risks the securities firms may assume, the capital adequacy ratio is better; as for the market risk of the positions, VaR, undoubtedly, is a good alternative.

Power measurement is important for various purposes such as revenue metering, power quality improvement, and direct load control. Various algorithms for power measurement have been proposed in the time domain, which implies a simple instrumentation, but more useful power formulations have been derived in the frequency-domain approach which would require appropriate sampling and measurement techniques to avoid long delay in processing voltage and current signals. The aim of this thesis to implement a measurement instrument that can measure the power components digitally and efficiently under sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal situations. We will use a high performance digital signal processing (DSP) chip and adopt a frequency domain based algorithm for the computation of power elements. The measurement system is expected to offer both high speed and accuracy, and can show wide spectra limited only by the sampling frequency.

THESIS ABSTRACT
The bulk of Internet Service Providers adopt two-part tariff. Two-part tariff means users should pay a fixed rental every month, and pay a varied fee base on their connecting hours.
Internet Service Provider group their customers by analyzing customerâs demand level, and provides different group different Pay-Rating. We call this situation Multiple Pay-Rating. If Internet Service Provider provide their customers single Pay-Rating. We call this situation Single Pay-Rating. People always analyze two-part tariff in monopoly market. In this thesis I will analyze two-part tariff in oligopoly market. Then compare with the former, and we will know whether two-part tariff erode customerâs welfare.
I will create a differentiate-product demand function base on Logit model, and build two-part tariff oligopoly competition model. Analyze the equilibrium in Single Pay-rating and in Multiple Pay-rating. And I drew several conclusions from the analysis.
1. In oligopoly market structure two-part tariff not necessarily deprive of customerâs welfare. On the contrary if ISP group their customers, customerâs welfare will improve.
2. If there are no differentiation between customersâ utilities, nonlinear pricing will degraded to linear pricing. If customersâ utilities are different, ISP will set up the unit connect fee equal to the unit cost, and the month rental will raised with the increasing differentiation between customersâ utilities.
3. If Internet service provider group their customer and provide them different Pay-rating, the final equilibrium will be symmetrical equilibrium or non-symmetrical equilibrium.

The field strength prediction chart is a set of statistical curves obtained through the analysis of huge amount of field strength measurement data of the specific radio band in some area. It reflects the natural or artificial effects such as geography, atmospheric condition and buildings, etc. that affect the radio wave propagation. One advantage is that we can predict the rough relationship between the field strength and distance easily. As a result, we donât have to perform simulation field measurement in every radio planning. With prediction chart and field strength interference /protection ratio standard, we can suggest a minimum distance separation criterion between co-channel and adjacent channel broadcasting stations. It also provides a reference to authority to examine the broadcasting service application.
The FCC develops the F(50,50) charts and minimum separation between radio stations base on data collected in the U.S.. Presently, the regulations concerning the broadcasting applications in Taiwan still follow the FCCâs suggestion. In general, the field strength distribution is affected by two main factors: geography and atmospheric condition, which can be different from those in the U.S..
With the acquisition of digital terrain data of Taiwan, the terrain profile for a given path can be generated. In this thesis, weâll use Deygout model and the database of existed broadcasting stations to generate field strength distribution database for each station and analyze the database to develop the prediction chart that is suitable for the propagation environment in Taiwan. When combine with the field strength interference /protection ratio standard, weâll provide a minimum distance separation criterion of co-channel and adjacent channel in the FM band broadcasting stations. Our study can help the authority to achieve the most effective spectrum management in FM band.

The game is the inverse of the usual homicidal chauffeur game. Square of the distance between the pursuer and the evader when the game is terminated is selected as the cost function. To solve such a zero-sum game, the variational approach will be employed to solve the problem. An algorithm will be proposed to determine a saddle point and the value of the game under consideration

The novel designs of circular microstrip antennas have been investigated in this dissertation. In the linearly polarized designs, the study of single-feed dual-frequency circular microstrip antenna with an open-ring slot has been firstly presented. As for the broadband circular microstrip antenna designs, antennas with two open-ring slots, embedded reactive loading by probe feed and microstrip-line feed have been presented. The antenna bandwidth of them can be enhanced about 4% to 6%. In the circularly polarized designs, we have proposed a circularly polarized microstrip antenna with a spur line. By choosing a suitable length of the spur line, CP operation can be obtained. And then, such a design can be applied to a compact circular patch antenna with bent slots. These reduced the antenna size to be 40%~50% of that of the simple case. Finally, we use the ideas of CP operation with elliptic patch and dual-frequency operation with stacked patch to propose a dual-band circularly polarized stacked elliptic microstrip antenna design. The frequency ratio of this design is about 1.39.

The pyroelectric ceramic thin films and detectors based on PbTiO3 that exhibits a low dielectric constant and a high pyroelectric coefficient were fabricated by a sol-gel method in this thesis. The lanthanum (La) and calcium (Ca) were adopted as dopants. The PLT and PCT thin films were deposited on Pt/SiO2/Si substrates by spin coating. 1,3 propanediol was used as solvent to minimize the number of cycles of spin coating and drying processes to obtain the desired thickness of thin film. By changing the dopant content and the heating temperature, the effects of various processing parameters on the thin films growth are studied. The effects of various dopant contents on the response of pyroelectric detectors are also discussed.
Experimental results reveal that the dopant contents will influence strongly on the characteristics of thin films such as microstructure, dielectricity, ferroelectricity and pyroelectricity. With the increase of dopant content, the grain size, the coercive field (Ec) and the remanent polarization (Pr) of thin films decrease. The relative dielectric constant (εr) and the pyroelectric coefficient (g) of thin films increase with increasing the dopant content. In addition, the results also show that the PLT(10) and the PCT(25) thin films exhibit large figures of merit Fv for voltage responsivity (Rv) and Fm for specific detectivity (D*) at the heating temperature of 700â. In the pyroelectric properties of thin film detectors, Rv and D* increased with an increase of dopant content. However, Rv and D* decreased when La and Ca content exceeded 10 mol% and 25 mol%, respectively. The PLT(10) and the PCT(25) pyroelectric thin film detectors exist both the maximums of Rv and D*. The results are consistent with the evaluations of Fv and Fm of thin films.

A Study of the Influence of Enterprise Pensions System on Work Force Age Structure and Work Force Utilization in China Steel Corporation
THESIS ABSTRACT
The key factor of whether an enterprise can achieve its operation goal is effective utilization and management of human resources. In order to accomplish the goal of effective recruitment, training, utilization and retaining of human resources, an enterprise should monitor and control the status of the environmental change and enterprise development, and plan, improve and implement its human resource management system constantly.
China Steel Corporation (CSC) was officially registered on December 3, 1971. As of the end of January, 2000, CSC has 8,973 employees with an average age of 43.97. Among them, 5,617 or 62% of its total employees are between 40 to 50 years. The aging statistic indicates a relatively narrow age spectrum, which results in the over concentration of education degrees, ages and years in services of its employees, i.e., the homogeneity of its human resources. Once the business expansion of the enterprise becomes slow or even remains stagnant, its human resources can not be effectively dispersed or reallocated, which indicates limited promotion opportunities due to a lower turnover rate. Consequently, the company development is eligible to its canyon period, and growth is ended; then human aging becomes deteriorating. However, the legal labor pensions system is of very limited influence to improve CSC worker turnover rate and age structure. This pension system can not solve the current problem.
Thus, we analyze and examine feasible human resource strategies in CSC from the work force utilization aspect. We also recommend a series of strategic thinking, e.g. its internal retirement adjustment, preferential early retirement, CSC Group work force utilization, business outsourcing, inner createpreneur help, etc., to improve the workers' age structure effectively, keep excellent replacement, activate work force, and enhance human resource utilization efficiently. By doing so, CSC will constantly upgrade its competitive advantage, and ensure its continuous operation.

This work uses different size of strain gages (Gage Grid Length: 10mm, 1mm, 0.2mm) to measure the stress distributions of metal (Al 6061-T6) and composite (laminates of [0/+45/90/-45]2S and [0/90]4S layers ) with a central circular hole and a crack. Both the SCF (Stress Concentration Factor) and SIF (Stress Intensity Factor) are found to consider the stress scatteredness of experimental data in contrast to micro- mechanics. To understand the strain gage size effect is our main purpose in measuring both types of materials.
The size effect of strain gage we find appears obviously in the measuring position with stress changing significantly. We find that the size of strain gage is bigger; the error of stress is higher. Analyzing the stress scattering around a central circular hole, we obtain the experimental result that the stress will first reduce drastically from central circular hole edge and then keep uniform. In analysis of the stress scattering around the crack tip, we observe that first stress rises quickly from the specimenâs free edge to the top of crack tip with a maximum value, and the stress keeps a nominal value in the specimen central part. Comparing the empirical result of SCF and SIF, we find that the data of 0.2mm of strain gage close to the theoretical solution, while those of 1mm and 10mm strain gages appear inexact in measuring and calculating SCF and SIF.

This thesis studies three asset allocation strategies under a defined-contribution pension plan: Buy-and-hold (BH), constant mix (CM), and time-invariant portfolio protection (TIPP).
First in this paper, the actuarial assumptions follow Frees et al (1998), as well as Chang and Lin (1999): the age of the beneficiaries is between 25 to 65 and follows the uniform distribution. As to the investment environment, the portfolio includes a risk-free asset, certificate deposit (CD), and a risky asset--the stock. The interest rate of CD is fixed and the return of stock varies according to 14 scenarios.
Then the concept of an open-ended fund is applied to compute the NAV (Net Asset Value) of three strategies for each month and a model of defined-contribution pension funds was developed. Moreover, this thesis also discussed the relationship between the trends of the stock and the changes of stock weights, as well as the terminal wealth of pension fund and the income-replacement ratio under each asset allocation strategy. The characteristics and timing of each strategy can be investigated clearly.
Finally, the input parameters derived from the data of historical stock market in Taiwan is used to implement Monte Carlo simulation so that the study of the performance of asset allocation strategies can go more close to reality.
The endeavor and results of this thesis will be a useful reference to facilitate both the government and private sector to manage the pension fund.

Abstract
The effects of temperature on daily eclosion time and monthly eclosion days of the marine midge Pontomyia oceana were investigated. We changed temperature at different times on the eclosion day. The results show that P. oceana has started related metabolic processes at sunrise which lead to eclosion after sunset. Daily temperature cycles do not have concentrating effect on daily eclosion time. Two peaks of eclosion dates occurred from the same batch of fertilized eggs in the laboratory without cyclic environmental factors. High culturing temperature results in short interval (duration) between fertilization and eclosion, whereas more days are required at low temperature. The culturing temperature has a significant influence upon the numbers of P. oceana occurring in different eclosion peaks. High first/second peak ratio occurred at high temperatures whereas relatively more eclosed at the second peak at low temperature. The eclosion dates of offspring are not related to their parents with regard to the 2 peaks. There was an corresponding shift in eclosion days in eggs fertilized 2 days apart. It suggested that circasemilunar eclosion times were not caused by cues in the laboratory.

Abstract
The work presented in this thesis is intend to develop the required technologies for fabrication optical interconnection between a single mode fiber (SMF) and a hybrid antiresonant reflection optical waveguide(ARROW). In addition, the coupling characteristic between the SMF and ARROW are theoretically investigated.
The fabrication of the optical interconnection includes three major techniques: fabrication of hybrid ARROW waveguide, V groove formation and U groove deep etching. The ARROW waveguide centered at 1.3mm was fabrication using semiconductor process technologies. Propagation losses of the device as low as 0.6dB/cm for TE polarized and 2.55dB/cm for TM were obtained. Anisotropic etching of Si-V grooves were formed using EDP solution, and room temperature sputtered Ta2O5 was used as the etch mask. At a etching temperature of 1200C, the under cut is 1.6mm. In order to increase the coupling efficiencies, we employed the U groove deep etching to reduce the distance from SMF to ARROW . The trenches with a depth 58mm were etched with SF6/O2 dry etching.
Based on our calculation, the coupling efficiency as high as 90% can be obtained when the hybrid ARROW has a core thickness and a waveguide width of 12mm. The 3-dB alignment tolerance in X and Y directions between the SMF and ARROW are ±3.6mm and±3.7mm respectively.

This study examines the failure firmâs stock risk character and return behavior prior announcements day. This study includes three parts. First, we examine the risk different between failure firms and control firms. Second, we analysis the returns character of failure firms, and third, we test whether the different judgment announcements will affect the failure firmsâ stock return.
We examine the daily stock returns between 1997 and 1999, 26 failure firms and 50 control firms have been observed. The empirical results can be summarized as follows:
1. Systematic risk behaves quite differently for the failure and control groups as much as two years before failure.
2. Both the total variance and the firm-specific variance behave quite differently for the failure and control groups only two months before failure.
3. The market is effective before announcements and not effective after announcements.
4. The shareholders of failure firms lost between different judgment announcements are no different in a short time.
5. The magnitude of the price reaction to failure filings depend on the probability of bankruptcy and proxy for predisclosure information impounded in stock prices over the year prior to failure filing.

This thesis is to investigate the power system operation strategy for an electrified mass rapid transitï¼MRTï¼network with the load transfer among main transformers by considering load growth and due to annual ridership increase, the loading factors of main transformers are improved so that the power system loss can be reduced. For the conventional planning of an electrified MRT system to serve the public transportation for the metropolitan area, the transformer capacity is often designed to meet the criterion of not only covering the peak demand but also providing the 100% fully capacity reserve for the system operation of target year. With such a high backup capability, the transformers are very lightly loaded for most of the operation time and significant core loss will be introduced over the lifecycle.
In this thesis the train motion equation has been applied to find the mechanical power required, the proper strategy of unit commitment of main transformers and network reconfiguration by switching operation has been considered to enhance the operation efficiency of an MRT power system. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, the Taipei MRT network is selected for computer simulation. It is found that the loading factors of main transformers can be improved dramatically and the load balance among the transformers can be obtained by the proper switching operation. An efficient strategy for transformer planning by taking into account the growth rate of load so that the overall investment cost of main transformers can be justified. The load characteristics and load growth rate of mass rapid transitï¼MRTï¼are derived by an Energy Management Model (EMM) and the AC load flow analysis is used to solve the transformer copper loss and core loss over the study period. To obtain optimal planning and operation strategy of main transformers for the MRT power system, the transformers initial investment cost and depreciation cost, peak power loss and energy loss, and reliability cost of distribution transformers are combined to form the overall cost function .By performing the dynamic programming (DP) the unit commitment of main transformers by considering the annual peak and off peak power loading of whole MRT system is derived. It is found that more efficient system operation can be obtained by the proposed methodology.

The designs of various feeding networks for microstrip antennas have been investigated in this dissertation. In the active microstrip antenna designs, an amplifier-type microstrip antenna integrates a two- port amplifier circuitry to the various passive antennas through a 50Ω inset microstrip feed line which can function in broadband operationï¼CP operation and dual-frequency operation. As for the broadband circularly polarized microstrip antenna with a dual-perpendicular feed design, antenna with a dual-perpendicular feed which was formed by a Wilkinson power divider with a quarter-wavelength section of microstrip line for providing equal splitting of the input power and 90° phase difference to the two feed points has been presented. The broadband CP bandwidth can be achieved due to the good isolation between the two output lines of the feed network. In the microstrip antennas with CPW feed designs, we first proposed a microstrip antenna with three-dimensional CPW feed. A separate feed substrate is used which can provide a large-area space for the layout of complicated microwave circuitry. In addition, the feed substrate can also be oriented to the patch substrate with various angles, resulting in more flexibility in the proposed three-dimensional feed design. Finally, we proposed a design with two slot lines located at both sides of the coupling slot which can lengthen the excited patch surface current path, thus the resonant frequency is reduced and an antenna size reduction up to 40% has been obtained.

Abstract
The objectives of this thesis are to investigate the microstructures and the corrosion resistance of chromium (Cr) and nichrome (Ni-Cr) thin films deposited by rf magnetron sputtering. Different rf powers were used to prepare the Cr thin films on glass substrates. The thin films were then patterned and subsequently annealed in vacuum environment. The targets used for the sputtering are commercially available Cr and nichrome with 4N and 99.95% purity, respectively. Two different nichrome targets were used. The composition of Ni in nichrome are 40 and 80%. The sputtered samples were etched by reactive ion etching in a mixture of SF6 and O2 for testing the corrosion resistance of the deposited films. The thin films with excellent surface morphology and corrosion resistance can be obtained by preparing the films at a low rf power. This is because the films had lower stress and less defects than the films prepared by high rf powers.
At a low power of 20W, the etching rates as low as 120Å/min and 50 Å/min for Cr and nichrome were achieved. The annealing effect of the deposited films at different temperature are also discussed.

Owing to the environmental change, ongoing advances in internets and information technology , the timeãspace and mass have changed. To respond to the changes, enterprises definitely should follow the trend and make appropriate adaptation.
Virtual enterprises are sure to be the organization structure of the future. At present, in order to become virtual enterprises, many enterprises are making adjustment. However, partial reform or adjustment does not correspond to the definition of virtual enterprises. Therefore, only understand the characteristics of virtual enterprises, will we know how an enterprise adapts to the environmental changes. Through the review of literature and case study, this paper includes the characteristics of virtual enterprises as the followings : goal-function orientedãthe emergence of knowledge-based workersãtremendous and closely-connected strategic allianceãemploying information technology to proceed process reengineering.
Obviously, the pattern of enterprises has been changedï¼thus, classical analytical models have to make some adjustment. This study which is based on Michael Porter's theory tries to construct a new analytical framework, hoping to help the enterprises to respond to the changing environment that enterprises are facing. The study contends that virtual enterprises should develop efficiency effect and to attract customers to use network effect and special effect to take advantage of learning effect to build entry barrier cooperation revenue to build close relationship with the supply.
By synthesizing the practical experience of the case study and outcome of the analysis, this paper has presented some strategies for enterprises to cope with the changing environment. Hopefully these strategies could give other firms some inspirations.

After two world wars, the West European Economy goes through serious recession. Through the cold war, the representatives of west European countries, German and France, feel that they must cooperate. Hence, by the bases of economic co-operations, the West Europe starts to integrate their resources and political alliances. From the âEconomic Community (EC)â to âEconomic and Monetary Union (EMU)â, most West European countries go through several obstacles, like the Collapse of Bretton Woods System in 1971 and the European Crisis in 1992,â¦â¦, etc. Finally, in 1th, Jan., 1999, 11 countries of European Union establish EMU and expect to take Euro as their single currency formally in 2002. They also establish European Central Bank (ECB) to execute the Euro zoneâs single monetary policy.
The status of Euro after 1th Jan., 1999 is the purpose of this study. This article tries to use the Exchange Rate decision theories, Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and Interest Rate parity (IRP), to investigate the relationship between Euro and USD. From several statistical empirical tests, it reveals that the trends of Euro couldnât correspond with the theoretical wants, ie PPP and IRP canât catch the trends of Euro. By the outcome of âSign Testâ and âWilcoxon Sign-Rank Testâ, it can be found obviously that the Euro indeed is undervalued from the establishment to Apr., 2000 if we donât take the transaction costs into account.
As a result of the outcome of empirical finds, the article starts to investigate the reasons why the theoretical values from exchange rate decision theories are not equal with real ones. One is that if the empirical models ignore some important factors which lead to the biases of modelsï¼the other is if Euro is undervalued during this observation periods.
From the economic macro-environmental analyses, the article can infer that because of the Kosov Wars, Russian economic reform problems, the increase of short interest rate gap between USD and Euro, the different economic reform paces among member countries of EMU,â¦â¦, etc. result in the main factors of the weak currency - Euro.

Images are liable to being corrupted by noise when they are processed for many applications such as sampling, storage and transmission. In this thesis, we propose a method of image restoration for image corrupted by a white Gaussian noise. This method is based upon Gauss-Markov random field model combined with a technique of image segmentation. As a result, the image can be restored by MAP estimation.
In the approach of Gauss-Markov random field model, the image is restored by MAP estimation implemented by simulated annealing or deterministic search methods. By image segmentation, the region parameters and the power of generating noise can be obtained for every region. The above parameters are important for MAP estimation of the Gauss-Markov Random field model.
As a summary, we first segment the image to find the important region parameters and then restore the image by MAP estimation with using the above region parameters. Finally, the intermediate image is restored again by the conventional Gauss-Markov random field model method. The advantage of our method is the clear edges by the first restoration and deblured images by the second restoration.

Abstract
The metal halide lamp is one of high-intensity discharge lamps. It has many advantages such as good color rendering, high efficacy and a variety of color presentations. However, the problems of acoustic resonance, a long transition period of cold starting, and an extremely high ignition voltage for hot restarting should be overcome.
The investigation of the thesis is focused on the electrical characteristics of the metal halide lamp operating at high-frequency. Included are the acoustic resonance, starting transient and steady state operation. Various ballast circuits incorporating with ignitors are designed to drive several 70-W metal halide lamps. The operating frequency ranges with acoustic resonance, the ignition voltages for both cold starting and hot restarting, the transition period, the dimming performance, and the lamp equivalent resistance during the lamp life are measured and analyzed. Based on the investigated results, a useful guideline can be provided for the operation and design of the electronic ballast for metal halide lamps.
Key words : Metal halide lamp, electronic ballast, acoustic resonance, hot restarting.

The voluntary association is the mediate between society and individuals; it serves as a prime engine for social changes. Therefore, it is very important to find out who the voluntary association participants are. Previous research has focused primarily on demographic attributes of voluntary association participants. In addition to the demographic factors, this study investigates the effects of job characteristics, work-related attitudes, perceptions of social inequality, and resource constrains on the probability of participation.
Based on 1996 â Taiwan Social Change Survey,â this study uses logistic regression to model the determinants of participation in voluntary associations of more than 2000 respondents. The result shows that job satisfaction is negatively associated with participation rate and job stability has a positive effect on participation. With respect to the perceived causes of social inequality, situational attribution is positively correlated with probability of participation. Finally, respondents with lower family responsibilities and higher income are more likely to participate in voluntary association.

The market of performing art is expanding rapidly; the need for volunteer workers is increasing as well. In this research, we want to explore the relationship among volunteer workersâ motivations, job characteristics, job satisfaction and their intentions to leave.
Two hundred and twenty questionnaires were sent to the voluntary members of twenty-four performing art organizations. The total valid questionnaires received are 142, with responding rate equal to 70%. The most important findings are as follows.
(1) We found that external egolism is the strongest motivation for volunteer workers; altruism is the weakest one. (2) Although the jobs performed by the volunteers are somewhat important, the skill variety is limited. (3) With respect to the overall job satisfaction, volunteer workers are generally satisfied with their jobs; specifically, respondents are particularly satisfied with their social relationship. (4) With respect to intention to leave, most volunteer workers are willing to stay in their organizations, though the intention to leave varies with demographic attributes. (5) In additions, respondents scored high in altruism, overall job satisfaction, and growth satisfactions are less likely to depart, while perceived social obligations is negative related to intention to leave. (6) Self-interest motives are positive related to job satisfaction. (7) Job characteristic has a positive effect on job satisfaction.

Abstract
The impenetrable movement and crash of the stock market is always the most intriguing research task of any financial researcher. Nowadays, it has been proved that the movements of financial asset have the property of non-linearity or near-chaos and shows some tendency within a given period. We used the R/S analysis as the tool to indicate the tendency, and those stocks as our researching objects. We then combined purely price technical analysis indicators and genetic algorithms to form a predicting model. Then we compared our genetic predicting model with the traditional ARIMA analysis and hope to find out the invisible pattern under price volatility. And we hope our model could assist investors in assessing the stock markets more objectively and reduce the risk of stock investment.
The researching target is TSMC(2330). We covered the period from 5 September 1994 to 28 December 1999, resulting in 1490 trading days. Historical data are available from Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ). We execute the researching comparison by bear-market, bull-market, and bull-then-bear market and concluded as follows.
1. After the R/S analysis, we got the Hurst exponent of TSMC to be 0.849855 and the trending cycle was 940. It has proved that the market has tendency and indirectly showed that the Taiwan stock market was not efficient.
2. According to directional precision, our predicting model apparently outpaced the ARIMA model in these three periods. The reason was that our model grabbed more information than the ARIMA model.
3. If we only think about the inputs and outputs, our model seems to be a proper framework for explaining the relationships among variables in comparison with the neural network model having the same input and output variables.
4. We can deduce the invisible relationships of price technical indicators and the closing price.
5. Genetic predicting model can detect the prevailing trend of the learning periods.
6. The shorter the learning period, the better the predicting effects. As a whole and conservatively speaking, we have 70% confidence in directional precision.
7. If we combine proper trading strategy with genetic predicting model and deduct the transaction cost, we still get a better profit than buy-and-hold strategy and have some maneuvering flexibility.
8. After hypothesis testing, our predicting model seems to have some potential of ex ante prediction, but the stability and usability still need further study.
In short, we proposed the ex post stock price movement learning model and the viable direction of ex ante prediction. Investors can take advantage of the flexibility of the predicting model and avoid using the over-complex and rigid trading strategies.

Product bundling is a common tool to increase sales and profits for the firms when they sell products. In traditional market, because the consumerâs reserve price to each product is different, adopting product bundling strategy can achieve their goal.
Now , owing to the highly changed technology and the prevailing of computer and internet, there are plenty of forms and varieties of product bundling. It is more different to do the research about the product bundling in computer, software, or some high-tech information industries. In the light of the characteristic of these industries, it is necessary to modify the product bundling strategy to meet the demand.
This study focuses on the product bundling strategy in software industry. A few days ago, in the case of Microsoft who violates the antitrust law, the public starts to pay attention to the product bundling strategy in software industry again. But the software industry has two very important characteristics. First, there are compatibility problems between different products. Second, it is difficult to define the boundary of products. So this study tries to build a model to explain the application of product bundling strategy in software industry, and use the model to confer the case of Microsoft.
There are three objects in this study. First, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of product bundling strategies in all kinds of conditions in the recent years. Second, using the model to prove that if there is only one monopoly firm in the main product market and it bundles its main and downstream products. Then the downstream competitor and the consumers will be harmed. Third, using the inference of the model to comment the case that the U.S department of justice who accuses Microsoft bundling its personal computer operation system and browser.

Although the pharmaceutical industry in Taiwan is not at large, there exist such two hundreds companies in this industry. In the past decade, such industrial development is unable to keep up with those of more developed countries, for instance, the United States and the United Kingdom.
A few reasons behind such fact are due to the high barriers on research and development of the pharmaceutical industry. For those larger pharmaceutical companies, investments on research and development are continuously being attempted. Though such attempted level cannot be compared with those pharmaceutical industries from abroad, it serves as a fine learning model for other companies particularly those of smaller ones to take into considerations. The primary goal behind the study is to explore the development and research of the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, such finding could provide an important source for other companies and for the government in the future if they plan to develop such type of industry.
In order to carry out the study, interview method suggested by the experts will be utilized. First and foremost, related documents and sources on the pharmaceutical industry field both including the developing and technical aspect will be collected.
The major points will then be sorted and organized for further study. Next, those managers who specialize in this area will be interviewed; and their opinions and their methodological recognitions will then be analyzed.
The study shows that most of these companies belong to the so called small and medium size enterprises. Their methods of modeling acquisition are decisions made by the top managers depending and according to the different situations and different cases. Most companies perceive some common factors like economical motivation, technical motivation and copyright and patent rights as the problems to be emphasized more. Finally, nine questions, comments and related discussion topics from the study are presented.
In conclusion, this study suggests two aspects for further research. One is to analyze the feasibility on the possible integration of large-scale pharmaceutical companies in Taiwan and the second one is to develop policies for research and development of pharmaceutical industry. This is to further expand the purpose behind the research.

ABSTRACT
PEEK matrix reinforced by carbon fibers as one thermoplastic composite material is studied. Thermoplastic composites have the advantages of high specific stiffness and strength, longer fatigue life, good resistance to moisture absorption and high temperature condition. The thesis is aimed to investigate the mechanical properties and fracture mechanism of the centrally notched AS-4/PEEK composite laminates subjected to tension-tension fatigue loading at elevated temperature.
We use three common types of laminates, such as cross-ply , quasi-isotropic and angle-ply . After centrally notched, we first obtain the base-line data of mechanical properties by tensile tests at five different temperatures, such as 25âã75âã100âã125âã150â. Then, the fatigue tests are conducted, we receive the fatigue strength and life and establish the stress-life curves. The fatigue characteristics and fracture mechanism of a centrally notched composite laminate at elevated temperature are also recorded and observed.
The empirical results can be concluded as follows. At the same temperature, the laminate of cross-ply possesses the largest ultimate strength and fatigue strength, quasi-isotropic the second angle-ply the smallest. As for the elastic modulus, the laminate of cross-ply is larger than that of quasi-isotropic. However, the large strain of angle-ply is within the plastic range that is out of the limit of the study. Thus, a further investigation is needed for angle-ply laminates alone. After centrally notched, the net area is reduced of the specimen, and then the elastic modulus is raised and the ultimate strength and fatigue strength of composite materials are lower. As the temperature increasing, the ultimate strength, fatigue strength and elastic modulus are all decreasing.

Abstract
Equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) has been used to investigate the formation of submicron grain structures in copper deformed to ultra-high plastic strains by different die angles, deformation routes, and deformation temperatures. The result was characterized by the use of transmission election microscopy (TEM), and the evolution of the deformed Cu depended on several parameters such as die angle, deformation route, and deformation temperature. It has been demonstrated that the most effective method of forming high angle boundaries and recrystallized grains by severe plastic deformation is to rotate billets with a constant clockwise 90o between each pass (route BC) via a 90o die angle. Besides, the temperature effect on the microstructural evolution is studied. With increasing deformation temperature, the microstructure becomes more homogeneous because the climb and the cross-slip of dislocations are easier at higher temperatures, and the fraction of high angle boundaries, recrystallized grains and size of them are increased significantly with the deformation temperature. In addition, the thermomechanical process was also investigated in the present work. It is suggested that a uniform submicron grained structure could be obtained by increasing the deformation temperature and decreasing the intermediate annealing temperature to promote dynamic recovery and to inhibit discontinuous recrystallization.

Venture Capital was first introduced to Taiwan in 1983, and plays an important role in industry development as well as technology enhancement. This research try to compare situations between Taiwan and American, then empirically tests how Venture Capital benefits Taiwan's economics development.
The thesis is what role Venture Capital plays when companies go for IPO. By empirically testing under earningãgrowthãdebt and management ability, we found that earning growth rate before and after tax are significant at 5﹪. Inventory turnover rate is significant at 10﹪. VC backed companies take12.13 years to go IPO, when non VC backed companies take13.31 years to go IPO.
Moreover, we found that when using Fama - French three factors model to measure abnormal return, VC backed companies are higher before 120 days.

Abstract
The behaviors of the TaNx barrier layer that placed
between the Cu metal and GaAs have been studied
by using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron
spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
The TaNx and Cu films were deposited on GaAs
sequentially with RF magnetron sputter.
With a 250 nm thick TaNx barrier layer, the Cu
metal can be impeded from reacting with GaAs
substrate at 575âannealed for one hour.
Within an As or Ga overpressure environment condition,
the failure temperature still occurred below 600â.
The failure of TaNx diffusion barrier layer for
preventing the reaction of the Cu and GaAs was originated
for the dissociation of the GaAs itself at 580â.
The outgoing As atoms increased the deterioration speed
of the TaNx film and reduced its blocking ability.

The environment changes quickly in these years. No matter the changes of the outside environment or of the business, it will impact the businesses, and the organizational culture will have some dynamic phenomenon. In this thesis, four companies, which were impacted by some important events, are my study samples. In order to understand the cultures of the companies, the forming processes and the dynamic relations during each culture levels. I use Scheinâs model of organizational culture to interpret the four cases, and use Hatchâs culture dynamics model to analyze.
The results conclude six reasons that cause the change of organizational cultures: a weak culture, small size, serious threatens, the transfer of leaders, the transitions, and in order to consolidate original culture. Besides, there are some relations between the Scheinâs model of organizational culture and Hatchâs culture dynamics model.
The thesis bring out four propositions:
1. When the company was merged, its culture will be impacted by the strong culture of the merger. The merger will make use of the changes of artifact level as its tool to build or change the values and the assumptions of the company be merged.
2. After the equal merge of two companies, it will be in motion with the assumptions, and values of strong culture. At the same time, the strong culture will develop new artifacts to help weak culture to recognize the strong side.
3. To confront the new law opposite to original culture, if every member of the organization recognize and assist the culture, and through consolidating by the effectual members, the company still has the opportunity to resist the change.
4. When the organizational culture was impacted, some transitional artifacts will appear in initial stage, but they canât affect the values and assumptions. They will disappear after the transitions.

When a privately-held firm goes public through an IPO ï¼initial public offeringï¼, the ownership structure of the IPO firm would change due to external equity financing. The ownership structure is related to the firm performance with respect to the corporate finance theory. Therefore, we agree that the relationship between the ownership structure and IPO long-run performance is worth examining.
With respect to the corporate control and agency theory, we investigate the effect of the increase of insider ownership on the performance of IPO firms. We show that the increase of board ownership deteriorates the long-run performance of IPO firms. However, the increase of the institutional ownership improves IPO long-run performance. Basically, the agency theory implies that there exists positive relations between the insider ownership and performance and between the institutional ownership and performance. However, the corporate control theory agrees that the higher the insider ownership, the poorer the performance of the firms. Therefore, our results show that the institutional ownership can mitigate the agency problem while the role of corporate control subsumes the agency problem with respect to the insider ownership.

ABSTRACT
This thesis investigates the stabilization activities of IPOs in Taiwan. Price stabilization is a legal form of stock price manipulation to prevent the transaction prices from falling below the offer price. However, the information about the implement of stabilization activities is not revealed to the public. Therefore, it is difficult to detect stabilization activities. With the proxy measure for stabilization proposed by Ruud (1993), we find that IPOs with initial returns around zero are probably stabilized IPOs. The stock prices of stabilized IPOs drop consistently two days after issuance due to the withdrawal of stabilization activities. Furthermore, we find that the stabilization activities are positively related to the underwriter reputation and price spread, and negatively related to the price volatility and firm size. This thesis confirms that price stabilization exists in Taiwan IPOs market.

Recently, the market of mutual fund is getting larger and larger; and the need of determining which fund to buy is more important as well. In this study, we want to find out the relationship between mutual fund managerial team and mutual fund performance. We examine the performance of 64 mutual funds over the 3 year period 1997 through 1999 using Fama and Frenchâs 3-factor model. Then we test the persistence of mutual fund performance and whether a mutual fund manager have market timing ability.
Results show that a fundâs performance is significantly impacted by its managerâs number, fund age, turnover, expense, and mutual fund companyâs age. All else equal, investors can expect better performance from funds with few manager numbers, low fees, low buy turnovers, high sale turnovers, and younger mutual fund companys. On average, mutual fund managers do not have market timing ability, and mutual funds exist performance fersistence over the 3 year period.

Intersymbol interference(ISI) is an important factor which affects the performance of communication systems. To achieve highspeed digital transmission and reliable communication, an equalizer can effectively eliminate ISI caused by band-limited channel or multipath.
In this paper, we introduce an adaptive Hâ equalizing algorithm. Different form conventional recursive least square filtering algorithm, the adaptive Hâ filtering algorithm is a worst case optimization. It can minimize the effect of the worst disturbances (including input noise and modeling error) on the equalization error. It has been proven that the adaptive Hâ filtering algorithm has the advantage of reduction of sensitivity to modeling error and suitability for arbitrary ambient noise over RLS algorithm. However, the computational burden of the Hâ algorithm is enormous. To reduce the computational complexity, the subweight partition technique is employed to the Hâ algorithm. Computer simulation also shows that the Hâ algorithm can reduce the dynamic estimation error resulting from subweight partition.
Finally, in order to overcome multiple access interference, interchip interference, time-varying effects from the channel and computational complexity, the Hâ algorithm with subweight partition (termed Hâ-based) is then further extended to the multiuser detection in code division multiple access (CDMA) system. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the advantage of the Hâ-based equalizing algorithm.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the fitness of using PHMGA (Parallel Multilevel Hybrid Genetic Algorithm), which is a fast and efficient method, in the geometrically nonlinear structural optimization. Parallel genetic algorithms can solve the problem of traditional sequential genetic algorithms, such as premature convergence, large number of function evaluations, and a difficulty in setting parameters. By using several concurrent sub-population, parallel genetic algorithms can avoid premature convergence resulting from the single genetic searching environment of sequential genetic algorithms. It is useful to speed up the operation rate of joining timely multilevel optimization with parallel genetic algorithms. Because multilevel optimization can resolve one problem into several smaller subproblems, each subproblem is independent and not interference with one another. Then the subsystem of each level can be connected by sensitivity analysis. So we can solve the entire problem. Because each subproblem contains less variables and constrains, it can achieve the faster converge rate of the entire optimization. PHMGA integrates advantages of two methods including the parallel genetic algorithms and the multilevel optimization.
In this study, PHMGA is adopted to solve several design optimization problems for nonlinear geometrically trusses on the parallel computer IBM SP2. The use of PHMGA helps reduce execution time because of integrating a multilevel optimization and a parallel technique. PHMGA helps speed up the searching efficiency in solving structural optimization problems of nonlinear truss. It is hoped that this study will demonstrate PHMGA is an efficient and powerful tool in solving large geometrically nonlinear structural optimization problems.

A single-stage high-power-factor electronic ballast is designed for fluorescent lamps with dimming capability. The circuit configuration is originated from the integration of the half-bridge resonant inverter and the buck-boost converter. The buck-boost converter is designed to operate in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) to provide nearly unit power factor at a fixed switching frequency. With asymmetrical pulse-width-modulation (APWM), the lamp power can be effectively regulated. The power switches of the inverter exhibit either zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) or zero-current-switching (ZCS) over the whole dimming range. Design equations are derived and computer analyses are performed based on a power-dependent lamp model and fundamental approximation. Design guidelines for determining circuit parameters are provided. A prototype circuit for a T8-36W fluorescent lamp is built and tested to verify the analytical predictions.

The development of information technology (IT) shortens the distance between people, blurs the boundaries among countries. People confront unprecedented shock in both living and working styles. Facing the era of speed, the firms have to recognize what their surviving competence is. Generally the adoption of IT indicates the efficiency and effectiveness of a firm. Therefore, the first centerpiece in this study is to examine the influence of adoption of IT on the manufacturing performance of thefirms.
With its high quality and excellent process capability in manufacturing industry, Taiwan has currently become the "global manufacturing center". Nowadays Taiwan's firms will contract the orders of production and sales from global division of labor rather than simple manufacturing orders. The challenge that Taiwan's firms will confront in the future will be supply chain management (SCM), which is also a key issue for a firm to enhance its competence. Therefore, the second centerpiece in this study is to examine the influence of supply chain management on the manufacturing performance of the firms.
Supply chain management has become a good tool of the firms in their business management. Therefore, the third centerpiece in this study is to examine the relationship between supply chain management and the development of IT, and their influence on the manufacturing performance of the firms.
79 semiconductor downstream firms were used as target of sampling for data collection, while effective recalling rate is 37%. The result of this study indicates:
1. The application extent of IT with the capability of SCM reaches significant level.
2. The capability of SCM with the manufacturing performance reaches significant level.
3. The application extent of IT with the manufacturing performance does not reach significant level.

Audit Quality is the most important factor to a public accounting firm. The financial crisis of lots of companies shows that the audit quality of public accounting firms has problems. The audit decision-making process in the Big 5 and other middle size accounting firms has been structured, but there are short of discussing to understand the behavior of auditor in public accounting firms. The existing literature suggests that fairness can provide a reasonable explanation for employeesâ satisfaction and job performance, but the answer of what can improve the perception of justice is not clear.
The emphasis on this research is the effect of justice perception by leadership style and communication in the accounting firm. According to the questionnaire and regression analysis this research found when the degree of leadership style is high, the degree of the perception of justice will be higher. And the communication situation has positive effect on the perception of justice. Not all of the interaction effects on the perception of justice are positive and signature.
The result of this research suggests that the leader in the public accounting firms can change their behavior and the information quality and quantity to improve the justice perception of employee.

In this thesis we reveal that the Ohmic contacts
of n-type and p-type GaN are obtained by the
method of thermal evaporation. For different
types of GaN, different metals are used to
evaporate on GaN surface to form Ohmic contact.
The measurements of specific contact resistivity
were performed by TLM (transmission line model)
for different types of GaN. Also, we use a shadow
mask to form four Ohmic contacts on four corners
of GaN surface , and utilize the four contacts to
perform Hall measurement by Van der Pauw method.
By the data of Hall measurement, it indicates
that the specific contact resistivity of heavily
doped samples are smaller than lightly doped
samples. The effect of intensity photoluminescence
( PL ) spectrum of different annealing treatment
of p-type GaN are also demonstrated in this thesis.
And the carrier concentration of p-type GaN will
change with different annealing condition.
The method of C-V analysis is a powerful
technique to determine the parameters of device.
In this thesis, we exhibit completed formulation
of how to calculate all the parameters of MOS
structure, using Ga2O3/p-GaAs MOS structure as
calculated sample. The high frequency C-V curve
of Ta2O5/n-GaN MOS structure reveals a possibility
for fabricating a MOSFET using Ta2O5 as insulated
layer and GaN as substrate. In this thesis, we
utilize Ta2O5 as insulated material, because
Ta2O5 is a material with high dielectric constan.

Capital Assets Pricing Model (CAPM) proposed by Sharpe (1964) is the most popular model for evaluation of expected returns. Based on CAPM, beta is the only cause for the expected return. However, Banz (1981) and Reinganum (1981) argue that firm size is also influential for asset returns even beta is controlled. The size effect is called an anomaly for the pricing model based on CAPM. Besides size, Fama and French (1992) show that the Book-to-Market ratio is also significant for the stock returns. Basically, the size and Book-to-Market challenge the role of beta in evaluating the expected returns of assets. Nevertheless, Kothari, Shanken and Sloan (1995) show that beta is the only cause of asset returns if longer holding returns are conducted in the tests of the pricing model.
This thesis employs two kinds of length of holding return to examine the effects of size and beta in the asset returns. For shorter holding beta, we use the weekly data while we use monthly beta for longer holding return. We find that beta and size are both positively related to asset returns. No matter which length of holding return is applied. However, the positive relation between size and expected return in Taiwan needs further investigation.

The outsourcing of the business logistics activities have became a trend. The goals of my research want to understand that:
(1) The outsourcing extent of the logistics activities. (2) The logistics outsourcing considered factors. (3) How the firm size affect the (1) and (2). (4) How the logistics network complexity affect the (1) and (2).
The researchï¼s samples are the PC and peripheral equipment companies in Taiwan. The capital, the revenue, and the number of the employee measure the size of a firm. The logistics network complexity is measured by the number of the customers, the number of the suppliers, the number of the countries that customers in, and the number of the countries that the suppliers in.
The result shows that the companies think the cost saving factors is most important when they decide to outsource the activity. The great extent of the traffic transportation, salvage and scrap disposal and return goods handling are outsourced.
The companies whose sizes are small put great emphasis on the â»logistics information systems§ factors. The big companies have a tendency to outsource the physical moved activities like traffic transportation, salvage and scrap disposal. The small companies are apt to outsource the process handling activities. In the logistics network complexity, the suppliers make greater difference in the outsourcing logistics activities than the customers. The numbers of the countries affect the logistics outsourcing considered factors.

The Study of Information Sharing for Time-based Competitionï¼The Empirical Analysis on Supply Chain Information Integration in Taiwan IC Industry
Thesis/Dissertation

With rapid growth for years, Taiwan IC industry has played an important position in the world. In addition to the growth, close interaction and cooperation among firms have become the characteristics of Taiwan IC industry. Currently, time-based competition has been one of the most important factors for business success, and the competition in the 21st century relies on strategic supply chain management. Through interfirm collaboration by sharing information among supply chain partners, some activities originally performed in an individual firm are replaced by firms with core competency. In performing these activities, the competitive advantages through the supply chain information integration are gradually recognized.
The objective of this article is to realize the current situation and future plan of inter-organizational information sharing (IOIS) in Taiwan IC industry. From literature, there are lots of factors that influence the success of IOIS, this paper focuses on some areas, such as benefits from IOIS, motivations of IOIS, risks from IOIS, strategic or operational reasons, IT maturity among firms, key success factors of IOIS, and the initiator of industrial IOIS. Through questionnaire survey, we collect and analyze various viewpoints from companies of Taiwan IC industry supply chain, including IC design houses, IC fabs, assembly and testing houses, assembly material and equipment suppliers.
After the empirical analysis, we compare the findings with literatures. We conclude that the IOIS, namely networked IOIS, in Taiwan IC industry proceeds toward reciprocal interdependencies between organizations. The coordination mechanisms count on standards, rules, and mutual adjustment. Initially, the networked IOIS will tend to be much less structured and the potential for conflict may be higher. At present, because of lack of reliable and mature information connection among firms, the intensive information technology support is needed.
Finally, based on the findings, we summarize the characteristics and present the model of IOIS for Taiwan IC industry supply chain. Then, some suggestions are arisen for industry reference, including mutual benefit realization and cooperation willingness, protection of business confidential and data security, integration of enterprise systems and industrial standard messages, proposal of IC industry association to be the coordinator or initiator of IOIS, step by step implementation according to priorities of information type, and integration of information flow with manufacturing goods flow in the supply chain.

The main purpose of the study is to compare the differences of marketing strategies of the two-dimension classification, which classified by degree of customization and benefit duration period. And to explore the influences of the strategic selection of the services industries by different organizationâs features and different strategies makerâs characters.
The research takes eight industries as population to investigate their marketing strategies. After collected, the data is processed with frequency analysis, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, one-way ANOVA, and two-way ANOVA. The key findings are:
1. The result indicates that two dimension classification method is more efficiently to reflect the differences of the marketing strategic between different taxonomies of service.
2. Service of âhigh degree of customization and long benefit duration periodâ focuses on the marketing strategies such as âpublic relationship strategy,â âstrategy of emphasizing the importance of employees,â and âbuilding the intangible quality image strategy, The strategies such as âlow price strategy,â âadvertisement strategy,â and ânon-personal promotion,â which only can bringing short-term effect, are hardly used.
3. Service of âlow degree of customization and short benefit duration periodâ is just the opposite, emphasizing the strategies which can bring the instant effect.
4. Service of âhigh degree of customization and short benefit duration periodâ prefers the use of âstrategy under smoothing the unbalance of supply and demand.â

The photoreflectance(PR) and Electroreflectance(ER)
of surface-intrinsic-n+ type doped GaAs exhibit
many Franz-Keldysh oscillations (FKOs), which
enable the electric field (F) to be determined
from the technique of the fast Fourier transform
(FFT). It is known that F's determined from PR are
subjected to photovoltaic effect, but it is
difficult to estimate the strength of modulating
field (dF) of the pump beam in the PR measurements
. Alperovich et. al. have used imaginary part of
FFT to determine the strengths of dF's in the ER
measurements [V. L. Alperovich, et. al. Appl. Phys
. Lett. 71, 2788 (1997)]. Here, we will apply this
method to the PR measurements. The dF's thus
obtained will be compared with those deduced from
photo-voltage measurements. The result shows that
the method of Alperovich's can be used to
determine the strength of dF in the PR measurements.

Abstract
High quality epitaxial growth of undoped ZnSe, ZnSxSe1-x and ZnSe-ZnS strained quantum well structures were successfully grown on n-type (100)-oriented silicon substrates at 150 ºC in a horizontal cold-wall quartz reactor by low-pressure metalorganic atomic layer epitaxy (MOALE) at a pressure of 30 Torr for the first time. Dimethylzinc [Zn(CH3)2, DMZn], hydrogen selenide (H2Se) and hydrogen sulfur (H2S) were used as the reactants. ALE is a suitable technique for the growth of ultra thin semiconductors because it provides accuracy monolayer control of the deposited film thickness, low growth temperature and uniform growth over a large area by itsâ self-limiting mechanism âvia supplying source materials in a flow pulse sequences alternatively over the substrate. Idea one monolayer per cycle was obtained in wide range of parameters such as substrate temperatures, mole flow rate and pulse duration of reactants. From X-ray diffraction pattern, (400)-oriental single crystal epilayers of ZnSe are evidenced. The surface morphologies of ZnSe in the ALE temperature region 150 - 200 â, extensively smooth and mirror-like surface were obtained. PL spectra of ZnSe epilayer is dominated by the strong near-band-edge at 2.8 eV with FWHM of 36 meV. Schottky diodes were fabricated from the undoped ZnSe layer and the electrical properties were measured at room temperature. From the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics, a high reverse breakdown voltage (>40 V) and an excellent low cut-in voltage of 0.6 - 0.8 V were obtained. On the basis of the observed ZnSe/Si epitaxial film properties, the material is suitable for fabrication of ZnSe-based blue light emitting diodes and for application in direct-current thin-film electroluminescence.
The lattice of the ZnSxSe1-x layer with a sulfur content around 93% was found to have the best match to the Si substrate, as confirmed by the good layer thickness, uniformity, surface morphology and narrow linewidth of the X-ray diffraction rocking curve with a minimal FWHM of about 0.16 degree. In addition, strong near-band-edge and weak deep-level emissions in the longer wavelength region dominate PL spectra of the ZnS0.93Se0.07 epilayer at 300K. With respect to Schottky diodes, Au/n-ZnS0.93Se0.07/Al, has a high breakdown voltage, over 40 V at 400 nA and a low cut-in voltage of 0.68 V. The highest Hall mobility of the ZnS0.93Se0.07 is 347 cm2/v-sec. These results indicate a good lattice-match of ZnS0.93Se0.07/Si as a result of low numbers of interface and epitaxial layer defects.
The lower temperature of ZnSe-ZnS strained quantum well structures, 150 ºC would be lowed enough to eliminate 3-D growth related to the lattice mismatch between ZnSe and ZnS. A good epitaxy and crystallinity was carried out by X-ray diffraction. The formation of the strained quantum well structure is evident from the periodic behavior of each fluctuation profile by SIMS. At least 25 periodic thickness of the ALE growth samples shows a strong blue emissions and nearly neglects the deep-level emission at room temperature. The phenomenon of quantum size effects and the â blue-shift â was evidenced as the well width increases. The results of the PL measurements were found to correlate well with the theoretical one, parabolic well-strain mode. Schottky diodes were fabricated from the Au/ZnSe-ZnS SMQW/n-Si/Al, a high reverse breakdown voltage over 40 (at 20 µA) and an extremely low cut-in voltage of 80 - 120 mV were obtained. The I-V characteristics of the heterojunction are more suitable for the fabrication of the direct-current thin film electroluminescent (EL) device.

Aluminum nitride (AlN) thin films were deposited on SiO2/Si substrates using the reactive RF magnetron sputtering in this thesis. By means of the analysis of XRD, SEM, TEM and AFM, the optimal deposition conditions of highly C-axis oriented AlN films were obtained with RF power of 190W, sputtering pressure of 3mTorr, nitrogen concentration (N2/N2+Ar) of 30%, and substrate temperature of 400â. The characteristics of films annealed at temperature range from 600â to 1150â with N2 flow for 2 hours has been studied. Experimental results reveal that the films retain the high quality up to 800â. But when the temperature above 1000â, AlN films will be oxided to AlO:N.
In addition, the interdigital transducers (IDTs) were fabricated on the films annealed at 800â for 2 hours to study the characteristics of SAW devices. The results show that the central frequency, insertion loss and phase velocity of SAW were 182.25 MHz, -12.95 dB and 5824 m/sec, respectively. At the same time, we try to match the impedence of devices and improve the frequency response by using a simulation program. After the impedence was matched, the insertion are not strongly improved but the frequency response and closed-in sidelobe rejection exhibit better.
The effects of temperature on the SAW devices show that the central frequency almost does not shift when the temperature increases. But the insertion loss slightly increases with the temperature increased, the variation is about -0.02 dB/â.
